Interesting stat from last year

There's always so much talk about the speed of a Mike Bajakian offense. Cincy ran 863 plays last year (in 13 games). #Vols ran 890 in 12.

I think this is b/c our defense was usually only on the field for 4 plays, then we were receiving a post TD kickoff.

EDIT: DANG! BEAT ME TO IT! hahaha

CBJ will slow down the action if his team gets comfortably ahead. He doesn't want to burn them out unnecessarily. Remember, Cincy won 10 games last year. He must have had the luxury of letting them slow down.

Vols total possession in minutes was 323:41.

Cincy total possession in minutes was 373:18.

Looks like we played faster, but Cincy ran the ball 80 more times than us, so that accounts for the variability.

Likely ran more because they had comfortable leads.

In my Pea brained mind, it will be awesome to see our offense controlling the tempo. It's easy to slow down, much harder to speed up tempo if players aren't conditioned for it. It's going to be fun to watch, win or lose. There won't be much give up coached this season.GBO

I know most folks don't realize it just yet, but we are back to pounding the rock. That is a happy, happy, happy thing.

We had a 4 OT game against Mizzou and a barn-burner with Troy that was probably the equivalent of two games- worth of plays.

I noticed this a while ago. All the talk about the uptempo offense has confused me. Jones never averaged 70 plays per game at Cincinnati. I don't think they were ever in the Top 50.
