Newby here, wanting to learn more about the game. For those with deep baseball minds, what are your thoughts when you see that strikeout record?

To quote The Who, "How do you think he does it? I don't know. What makes him so good?"

Sincerely, when you see such a strikeout number over a season, it must be more than just a super fastball (and his velocity was never mentioned, anyway). At that level of play, what usually accounts for so many Ks?

Placement? His variety of pitches? Was his catcher practicing hypnotism? Was his girlfriend in the centerfield bleachers flashing the batters?

Also, setting aside so above reason, how many walks per 9 innings. It seems at the college level HR's follow walks many times.

All of the above…and it’s JUCO.

Schools stopped teaching the three R's and things like civics and history a long time ago. The difference in education between the United States and...well...take China for example...is shocking. We are so far behind, it's almost as if we were a third world country. We're stupid and indoctrinated. Colleges are a joke.

Unfortunately, that is true. Lack of education is creating a group of uneducated students who have no way of addling production to our economy and become a huge drain on our society.

Strikeouts are based on a number of things. Location, movement, knowledge of how to pitch to particular batters. All of that plays a key role. High strikeout numbers means he has good control, can locate his pitches. Probably has good movement, what that means is the pitch looks like it's coming in and then late it'll move and get a swing and a miss. Velocity plays a part too but you can have good strikeout numbers without super high velocity.
