I don't know how anyone can say Raleigh is improving this program...if anything it's getting worse. We struggle to win any games now period...we're easily the worst team in the SEC this year and probably have the worst program now. The sad thing is that Raleigh really did think that we'd be good this year.

Vols lost today 10-2, giving up 16 hits and having only 5 hits themselves. We're now 9-11 and 1-4 in the SEC. I too thought we'd be pretty good...but it's at the point where winning simply a game is incredibly difficult. It doesn't help that our preseason AA and preseason SEC player of the year Kentrail Davis has had a really down year.

If we end up like I think we end up at the end of this season, Hamilton just needs to admit he made a huge mistake with Raliegh and fire him.

Hell he should get 86ed for for the god awful uniforms the basevols are wearing this year.

Somehow, if this season turns out to be a dud like most think it's going to, MH gives him another year. If we don't show marked improvement, I see Hamilton giving Raleigh his pink slip.

Well due to the economy and all, you may be right. I hate to think how much more damage he can do next year. I wouldn't care if he announced today that Raliegh was out and the batboy is taking over the rest of the year.

I don't think there's much question this year will end up a dud, unless they have some miraculous turn around.

And yes, those uniforms are horrible. I applauded the fact they went to less black but they replaced them with those things....not good.

you guys sound the UK fan base.

a coach sends our team to ruins and since the current coach hasn't gotten them back on top (a place they rarely were before) in just over a year, he needs ousted. Brilliant.

I'm not saying Raleigh will be a success, but to pretend like he's had enough time for the decision to be made yet is laughable beyond belief.

Give me a break...he has enough talent to be significantly better than they are right now, and there's hardly any category that you can say they are making any significant improvement. Not to mention most were calling this a questionable hire at best back when it was announced.

and everyone knew that Raleigh played a completely different style of ball than Del and knew it would take time to get his type of system in place.

a different style of baseball..........ummmmmm
Exactly. It's not exactly going from a spread option to a pro-style offense or a small, quick, full court guard heavy team to a slower, more methodical PF and C heavy team. Baseball is baseball.

Baseball is baseball.
Not with the college game.
There is a great deal of differences in offensive philosophies.
Not so much defensively, but there could be some different things being stressed to the pitching staff. I am not close enough to the UT baseball program to tell you the current coaching style. I can say that I have a less than favorable opinion about the former coach.

I really hope we can turn this season around, but I just don't see it happening. I think Hamilton needs to swallow his dang pride and admit he made a HUGE mistake by firing Delmonico, and fire Raleigh and get someone else.

so how long does he get to get his system in place? 3 years? 4? 5?

i would say, as I said last year, he gets 3 years, meaning through next year. Without improvement next season, he should be gone. Of course, there's also that rumor mill that's out there (and the one I got blasted for last year because I brought it up), that Raleigh has been nothing short of an a##hole to everyone involved in UT athletics, so his tenure might be cut short because of that.

Very incorrect.

all things being equal, a bad attitude will make your stock drop. If this is true about him being a jerk, I think his leash just got shorter. My prediction is if he wins 5 or fewer SEC games, he will be gone at the end of the year. Hamilton has already given the dreaded "vote of confidence".

Can you elaborate?

My baseball theory is very limited.

All I know is that we dont have good pitching or hitting, the 2 most important parts of baseball.

defense is defense in baseball, it's just a decision on when and how to make shifts, etc. It's tough though, because some coaches like very solid defense, but what do you do if you have a power hitter or a player with a high on base percentage but he has no glove? Obviously some coaches put that kind of player at first base or left field, but nowadays even that becomes a liability.

Offensively there's many options. In it's simplest form, here's my best answer: Some coaches like to play for the long ball, taking a high number of Ks and what not that are associated with it. Simple theory is that the easiest way to score is by knocking it out of the park. Some coaches play "small ball" and rely on timely hitting, taking pitches and drawing walks. This gets a lot of men on base and the theory is the higher number of men on base, the more likelihood that some come all the way around to score.

Some coaches like to steal, some don't like to waste runners on basepaths.

Well considering he was witnessed by several to say "I hate this ****in' team" in the dugout in front of the team down at Miss. St. last year, I'd say him being a major jerk to others isn't a shock.

I have only been a Vol baseball fan for 2 years but I have been a baseball fan my entire life. Even though the Vols are having their struggles this year its still to me very exciting to watch them play win or lose.

Its nice getting out of work and driving an hour or so up to the park and catch the games. I do understand how frustrating it can be to watch your team lose but hey that's why they play the games.

I don't believe the Vols baseball program is doing poorly because of lack of tallent I think these kids need support of their fans, and just some confidence knowing they can compete with any team.

Baseball is a funny sport, because you could have a under par team best a superior team on any given day.

I really do like all the updates on this site for the Vols baseball, and I will support them regardless, its fun.
