VOLS deserve TOP 5!

Vols are a dangerous team to their opponent and themselves. All depends on shots falling. Good defense, streaky shooters, limited 2 pt production. Same story, different season.

Top 5 would be a W @ UNC. And a split with Purdue/Kans. Tonight is the opportunity for the Vols to make noise.

Would be a great win to get, but unless their big man gets a stomach bug along with a couple of other starters, I'm not seeing it. Road wins are tough. To go into Chapel Hill and win against a blue blood like that....nah. That's expecting way too much from a team that's still hasn't gelled.
Jelled? I rode a Gelding. Sorry, my sense of humor isn't for everyone.

To be a top 10 team, you have to beat other top 10 teams. Vols have beat a couple of solid Big 10 teams (one in an exhibition), a couple of bad teams and played close games to 1 & 2 but they were not clearly not better as a team than either of those.

BUT they had chances to win both games. A couple of big momentum shifts in each game. There were 5pt turnarounds in critical moments of both games that affected the Vols adversely. Not necessarily self inflicted either.

The lack of an inside offensive game puts limits on these Barnes' built Tennessee teams, you simply cannot win from the perimeter night in and night out, particularly in a strange arena where the visuals are a little different, Kenecht can play in that area, but he would need some help along the way,

The fall back position would be to look to score in transition, which Barnes doesn't seem to be a fan of, it is difficult when the opposition is shooting well and there is nothing to transition from,

It will be an entertaining year, assuming everyone stays healthy, but unless some of the younger guys figure out an inside game, I don't see a deep tournament run in the SEC tournament or the NCAA tournament this year

You are what your record says you are. Vols are currently not a top 10 team. As I said before the season started, they should be around 15th.....for now. In order to be a top 10 team and a contender for the Final Four, the Vols still need to:
--Develop a post presence that can score and/or draw a double team occasionally
--Improve in rebounding
--Develop some consistency at 3 point range
--Develop enough toughness to be able to score in the paint when it is really needed
--Develop a tougher competitive spirit in order to put teams away when they have the opportunity and win ugly games when they have to

The qualities listed above have to be exhibited against top P5 teams not just the mid majors. Kansas and Purdue just out toughed the Vols when the game was on the line. While the Vols were jacking up 3 pointers, KU and Purdue were working hard to get good shots in the paint. UNC just out worked the Vols early and built up a big eough lead to hold on at the end. Either way, the Vols need to be physically and mentally tougher in order to reach the goals the fans are setting for them.
