Tennessee kept the pressure on offensively all game and four Vol pitchers combined on a two-hitter to clinch the series sweep over Seton Hall, 10-2, on Sunday.

Three was a popular number as Fritts, Osborne, and Allen were the major batters.
A valiant effort by the Pirates trying to come back scoring two in the top of the 3rd but the Vols pitching in the final six innings was titanic, and Pirates were unable to contain the Vols offense.
The Vols imrpove to a perfect 7-0, and are one win away from tying the 8-0 start by the 2003 team.

I don't know much about college baseball... But with a 7-0 start... Is this team a hell of a lot better than most think?

Impressive. Even if the competition hasn't been the greatest

don't be too negative. Seton Hall is defending Big East Champion and was a very good team last seaon.

WKU competes in a tough Sunbelt conference finishing 4th

Northern Illinois was the weakest opponent but the too finished 4th overall in the MAC in 2011 at 16-11 and above .500 overall at 30-27

Tennessee has played far easier schedules (including that 2003 8-0 start schedule)

Northern Illinois is playing #8 Texas Tech this weekend and is playing far closer to the Raiders than they did the Vols.

In fact, the team playing worst right now out of the three opponents is actually WKU who lost 2/3 this weekend at home to Southern Illinois.

7-0 is special. 2 wins coming in extra innings! If nothing else DS has this team FOCUSED! I have no idea where we finish but I love the start.:good!:

Agree on your points. IMO this team is going to surprise like the basketball team has. It would not surprise me if they finish middle of the pack in the SEC. When the pitchers concentrate on getting ground balls and not giving up a bunch of walks; when our hitters stay under control in batter's box and wait for their pitch; when we take good angles and make the plays we are supposed to make on D - good things will happen. The mental aspect is what has changed so much. They are competing and having fun at the same time.

I love the base running I've seen so far with this team. It's aggressive, and it forces the defense to make tough plays in tight situations, but it so far it also seems that its not foolhardy running either, and I suspect significant thought is given to each attempt at a stolen base.

It'll be interesting to see how successful it is when they play division games. Vols are going need them when they face terrific pitchers in SEC Games.

I'm happy that we will be facing Rice's #3 starter and that we are facing Houston's #1 starter. Very good order. We are also facing the host (Rice) at 6:00 on Sunday night (last game)

The Cougar's starter Jared Ray had a no decision through 7 innings (1 run allowed) against Texas State. Cougs won 2-1 in walk off fashion. However, Rice swept 2011 Cinderella Dallas Baptist.

So....Rice is Ranked #4 and is undefeated. Always a great pitching team.

Houston is 4-3 after losing series 2-1 at home to Texas State.

Texas is 2-5 and (like Vanderbilt last weekend) was demolished at Stanford losing 7-2, 6-2, and 15-1). They were 2-1 against Duke and lost midweek to Texas-Arlington.

So, we are playing the best Texas team last.

Guys, I like how the schedule favors us this weekend. That does not mean we win but it is more favorable.

Also, consider the tournament is on turf and our sped and high pressure offense may work for us.

Texas plays Rice on Friday
Rice plays Texas Tech on Saturday

Prediction?
Lose Friday to Houston. Win the last 2 games. Book it

Even the best pitchers are gonna really hate the way Serrano gets his teams to play. Their aggressiveness, bunting, taking pitches, and non-stop movement is like a overactive terrier always jerking on the leg of your pants. You can't just ignore them and pitch. (Sammy Davis Jr, Jr. ball anyone?)

This coaching hire was good for UT baseball even though some on govolsxtra questioned it. Give him 3 years and the Vols will be competing for SEC Champion.

Wow. Very interesting prediction. Houston would seem to be the best opportunity to me for a win. If your prediction is correct that will tell me this team might have a shot a making Hoover.

Now it's my turn to be negative.

There has been a lot of bad runs. I think some of the problem may be a lack of "contact hitters" in the lineup. We have had a lot of our slower guys gunned down at 2nd. I recall a runner thrown out at home when a batter missed a sign as well.

I picked Houston as a loss because their #1 is pretty good. If we played them 2nd or 3rd I would pick Tennessee.

Texas is reeling. If they lose Friday night then they may be really pressing Saturday.

On Sunday, It's the last game I believe and I think Rice will be 2-0 and feeling "comfortable" playing the perceived weakest team in field with their #3 or #4 starter. (They play Houston before the tourney actually begins)

I agree it's counter intuitive, but still possible.
