Lobos' Williams, Saint Louis earn high marks; more Fast Break - College Basketball - Seth Davis - SI.com

"Don't look now, but the Volunteers have won five straight and seven of their last nine to move two games over .500 in the SEC and put themselves back in the bubble picture. Tennessee also has a flair for the dramatic, winning at Texas A&M on Saturday in four overtimes behind point guard Trae Golden's career-high 32 points. We will find out whether this flavor of the week represents a quick sugar high or something of true substance on Tuesday night, when the Vols host Florida in Knoxville. If Cuonzo Martin's crew can pull off that upset, they will really get tongues flapping in Bracketland."

Beat Florida and keep from laying an egg down the stretch and I think we can ride this wave of media hype into the tournament

Hope the team isn't even looking at bubble predictions and is just playing. Winning will take care of all. Keep earning respect by winning.

If we did, that would be similar to the 2010-2011 Uconn team that went on that huge heater. Granted their run didnt start till their conf. tourney. But before their Conf. tourney started I think they were out of the dance.

And anything can happen once your in...

I'd be more than happy to end up like that UConn team lol.

I'll be back to my eternal optimist self, I've been rational too long. We go 3-1 and we can still dance with a good shoeing at SECT. We go 4-0 and we are likely in regardless due to double bye we'd likely have earned. Here's where it gets fun.....

go 4-0 and win the SECT and you're talking about one of the hottest teams in America and probably get a seed 6 or better.

UConn did the same thing in 2011. They were in and was getting talked up as a #7-10 seed and grabbed a #3 seed.

Were they in before their tourney? I thought they were out?

No, they were in if I remember correctly. They were 4-7 in their last eleven and were limping in. They were 9-9 in conference and were 21-9 before the Big East Tourney.

UConn was going to be in, but they weren't going to get a great seed. Probably would have been in a 8-9 game.

Go back a few more years, though. When the Big East Tournament started, Syracuse was barely being mentioned on the bubble. Gerry McNamara got red-hot, they won the tournament, and ended up a 5 seed, IIRC.

Better comparison to UT this year. Good call.

Yup. The Cuse went from barely in to a five seed by winning five straight games. I also think four of those wins were against top 25 teams.

Yeah. It was one of the most incredible late season runs I can ever remember. I want to say at least 2 and maybe 3 of the wins came on buzzer-beaters, too.

Wasn't he the guy that mentioned how Kentucky just went down to a pathetic scoring team after we smoked the cats? Either way...glad he's on board! :)

I still think UT is a flawed team and will need some fortune to get into the tourney. However, they are playing like a NCAA tourney team at this moment. I guarantee you that not many teams are wanting to face UT right now. That couldn't be said in Nov-Dec-Jan.

Just keep winning. The rest will take care of itself.

Trae Golden, Jordan McRae, and Jarnell Stokes (before the winning streak) had all played really well, but at different points while the other two were in a funk.

Now all three are playing well.

Yep, and you usually have to have three fairly consistent scorers to be a legitimate threat. Now teams are having to pick their poison. Golden has been the key though. If he stays in his funk, it doesn't matter what McRae and Stokes does. He is the key and has been nothing short of outstanding in the last 5 games. He still makes the head scratching pass or takes a bad shot, but he has played like a different player. He's confident now.

You wonder what this team would be like with Maymon right now. I hope everyone comes back and we get to see it next year.

I think UT is among the best four teams who are currently not in the field, yet most "experts" have managed to find at least eight teams who are not in the field who they think have better resumes. I disagree with that. IF we beat Florida, that should put us in the field, at the moment, but it appears a lot of these "experts" will only move us to what they call the "First Four Out." Shouldn't it be the "Last Four Out," since these are the last four teams to be left out?
