Vols have lost East TN

We’re nowhere near that. We have physical talent that hasn’t been taught and developed. Combined with whatever this class nets, we’re better than Mizzou,Vandy,Kentucky and most likely South Carolina. And before you rewax the patience speech, I know what I’m talking about.

4-8..I concur that we are not really as bad as that record indicates, but that is a huuuge freakin hole to climb out of either way. It will take some time to beat this bunch of softies back onto really football players.

I’m all 4 Pruitt. He’s got a big job ahead and got some good guys today. I’m saying we’ve been disproportionately beaten in East TN for top recruits. We’ve gotten some high quality in state and out of state talent over past 6 years. But only 1 our of several from East TN.

East Tennessee is far, far from some bastion of great D1 football talent. We’ve made great in-roads to a far more fertile area for major college football talent....Nashville and the surrounding Middle Tennessee area. And now that we’re apparently reaching into West Tennessee for talented players, East Tennessee is no more than gravy, a relative afterthought.

I'd way rather have inroads to middle and west tn than east tn. Mays also ain't the can't miss prospect most believe. I'm sure he'll be decent, but i doubt he's Trey Smith level.

So 5 of Top 15 are coming here, plus we opened a pipeline to Memphis today, but you're going to moan over a few lost East TN pups?

Get real.

West Tenn will keep us in the game if we can get more Trey Smith's and Memphis players. However, if Memphis keeps their present coach they will start getting West Tenn Players. We have lots of players in West Tenn that Tennessee does not even recruit.

What I find ironic is that some complain about Cade wanting to play for a front runner...wanting instant gratification vs spending the time, taking some lumps, etc to rebuild a program while at the same time expecting coach Pruitt who has been on the job as a head coach for two weeks...for the first time in his career no less....to have us cherry picking 5 stars right out of the gate. I'm sure Pruitt will be expected by some to finish top 5 in recruiting and contending for the east in year 0. Talk about entitled and instant gratification. Let the man settle into the job or at least see how he does come February before we go nuts on the man. Is it any wonder so many "big name" coaches turned us down in this recent coaching search not to mention those that came before?

I don't want to be a bad sport, so I will wish him and UGA the same luck TN has had in the last 10 years:)

  • UT received 5 of the top 15 recruits up to this point in Tennessee.
  • Georgia received 5 of the top 15 recruits up to this point in Georgia
  • Alabama/Auburn collectively received 5 of the top 15 recruits in Alabama.
  • Miami/FSU/Florida collectively received 4 of the top 15 recruits in Florida (with Florida currently receiving zero recruits up to this point)

When you say check the stats, check the stats for the other powerhouses too. The numbers are all relatively the same.

Mays made me sad

If Mays goes down to Georgia, and turns out to be a prima donna, I will feel relieved he is their problem.

I get being upset about losing him; he committed as a HS freshman. His dad a former Vol great, and he is probably the best OL recruit from the area ever and at the position of our greatest need.

But if he has an attitude problem, it will show up in Athens just as fast as it would have in Knoxville. I hope he doesn't, but the next 2 trips the Dawgs make to Knoxville could be interesting.

East Tennessee won more than their share of State Championships this year. There must be some pretty good player in this area of the State.

Mays is everything as advertised.
And personally the kid was pressured to commit to UT long ago. Butch Jones being fired was his out. God bless him.

But East Tennessee is not a priority imo.

Yeah we lost Higgins too. Whatever.

Give me strong ties to Mid-State,
Memphis, Atlanta, Carolinas, And Florida and call it a day.
AND now Pruit is California. Awesome!

We'll be just fine.

Nick Saban is the gold standard in the history of college football recruiting. His first class at Alabama was ranked as follows:
247Sports 13th
Rivals 11th
Scout 22

They shoulda fired him right then.

Where were you when Harrison Smith told Fulmer to get out of his way so he could go to Notre Dame?

You can always cherry-pick but we weren't losing the majority of them back then. Were definitely not losing 10 of top 15.

That said, I think this staff will make up for it going forward. They not only had an extremely late start this year but are obviously up against inheriting Butch's mess and an 0-8 SEC conference mark this year.

We now have some of the best recruiters not only in the SEC but in the nation. If they show they can actually coach and develop players, unlike the two previous staffs then we won't have anything to worry about in the future or even with next years class.

Thank you sir for your eloquence. End of day its our watercooler/bar bragging for him its his life. I have been a VFL since before it had a name. I was always a vols fan. Always will be one. That being said I got my first 2 degrees from TSU because for me where I was from Knoxville back then was a scary place. Scary is a strong word to use, lets just say east TN had a reputation for being a less accepting place for people like me back then and to some extent now than is reality.

I have learned through experience that you learn things on your own and don't listen to reputation. But I was a teenager at the time and the internet wasn't a thing until well into my college years. These days I spend a good amount of my recreation/traveling towards knoxville because its an awesome place and weirdly though I live in Chattanooga most of my friends tend to be from that area. I live in Chatt but spend most of my recreational/social time in/around Knoxville.

Knoxville and east TN are great, awesome, welcoming places but people that live there might not realize how much people not from there have certain preconceptions about the area. There is a reason its hard to recruit from Memphis to Knoxville. Reality has little to do with it its about perception and what happens on VN (conversations) does not help it.

Such a dumb stat. So how many kids have a gotten out of Dallas/Ft. Worth area in the last ten year.....OH GOD ONLY 2 DEAR LORD THE SKY IS FALLING!!! You realize you are worse than the media slanting a very small sample size to validate what you are trying to say. Sad really. The last 6 years we have had top 15ish classes.... so the reason that we have been failing in your opinion is because we didn't get enough kids from Knoxville......RIIIIIGGGGGHHHTTTT!!!!

Every school who gets a new staff thinks its the best recruiting staff. South Carolina felt their new staff was the best recruiting staff in the SEC, 3 classes later nothing special. Going by 247's ranking of recruiters the 2 best not only in the SEC but the country are Dell McGee and Sam Pittman at Georgia who were the primary recruiters for 13 members of their class. Claiming to be the best recruiters and showing results are 2 different things. Sherrer has been a little above average recruiter in Athens, but lets not make him out to be a superstar recruiter. Rocker was fired for his distain of recruiting, and after watching Georgia's DL this year compared to their play under Rocker I am not sure why Pruitt hired him.

Pruitt will make us better, but recruiting wasn't our issue, it was that clown we had as our coach. The state of Georgia will be tough recruiting we are about 8th on the list of schools those kids are looking at now.

We will likely get Petterson, who I watch play in his HS state championship game and get overshadowed by a kid heading to Rutgers. But if Pruitt, his leading recruiter, was hired away from Bama we wouldn't be getting a 2nd look. If you want to cut off Atlanta bring Rush Prospt in as a coach, no coach is more hated in the state of Georgia, but he is a good recruiter on the HS level, ask anyone of the coaches in Georgia who have lost players to his recruiting. Then there is the little issue of him having a double life. Protesting Shiano's hiring like we did for something that may have happened years ago and bringing in Prospt who without question committed immoral acts wouldn't be how we want to be seen.

East Tennessee won more than their share of State Championships this year. There must be some pretty good player in this area of

Winning high school championships and competing in SEC is comparing eating at Ryan’s Steak House and The Palm. ET produces a few high D1 prospects but pale compared to population of the areas compared to MT and WT.
