Will be interesting to see how he does. Hopefully he does well. Double A is no joke. The top prospects from every organization reside in Double A. Many times those teams and the talent level is better than the AAA level. That’s the right place for him to start though.Hearing B. Joyce may get in to pitch tonight in Huntsville.
Hoping he has a good outing!
The list of hitters who love fastballs is long. Movement, movement, movement. Joyce has good control considering his velocity, but his success will be determined by his location and movement. I watched a recent interview about this and the slider and changeup cause the most problems for hitters. He hit 101 a few times. Overall rough outing. All 4 hits were off fastballs. The one strikeout was on back to back changeups. They were geared up for the fastball tonight.
Looked to me like he was over-throwing a bit. Left a couple of pitched up for hits. His slider seemed pretty effective. The list of hitters who love fastballs is long. Movement, movement, movement. Look at Maddux, whose fastball was in the upper 80s for most of his career. He had nasty movement, great command, and a change up that kept hitters on their heels.

This is the “only” reason why he’s here. He’s off to a good start but they have Neto their 1st round pick in high-A while Sonny D is here. They’ve hyped the hell out of him the last week around here. The PA announcer introduces his at bats with a fervor that no other player gets.the AA affiliate is in Alabama, good marketing move as Sonny D is a fan favorite at the moment, the dude can hit too so it's not surprising.
And some times that ladder is short and other times that ladder seems a mile high. Have had guys make quick jumps then get stuck, other guys who climbed slowly and made it all the way, and some who get stuck along the way and never make it to the top of the ladder. But getting on the ladder is a big deal ultimately.
Yep. Seen quite a few stories of guys with 10-years of minor league experience making their first appearance in The Show this season. That ladder is deceptively difficult to climb. Anyone that makes it to the Show, even if just for one season, should be proud of themselves.
