Just happened to turn on the tv last night to see what was on. Saw the Angels-White Sox broadcast listed and flipped over just in time to see young Mr. Joyce warming up on the mound. Watched the entire inning. He looked poised and confident - like he belonged there. Was interesting to see the trackman box (or whatever they call it) showing the location of his pitches. He was hitting the edges with almost every pitch, even with a lot of movement. The one or two pitches that missed the zone didn’t miss by much, and the one shown in the post above resulted in a swinging strike out.
Not sure how the trackman system decides what the pitch is, unless it’s detecting spin rate and direction. It kept labeling his pitches as “sinkers” but I can tell you those were definitely fastballs. They were moving all over the place but none of them were “sinking.” The one above was more of a rise ball as it started out in the zone and kept drifting up, causing the batter to swing under it. The last pitch did the same thing, but the batter managed to get the bat on it resulting in a pop up to shallow left to end the inning.
