Vols in NBA Summer League

College players play with college players . Overseas pro ball play with overseas pro ball.
The G league players play with G league players.
The summer league players play with summer league players. Why aren’t NBA STARTERS playing in the summer league?
My point is that there isn’t much movement in becoming a NBA starter. If you Ike the NBA all these leagues don’t get you much

The fact that these are not full squads but rosters containing some guys who are on NBA rosters makes it an even playing field for the rookies and younger NBA players. It’s eliminates playing a coach’s system. It’s about displaying raw talent and skill against the other college all stars and guys who have played in the NBA.

The games are televised because enough people will watch that there is money to be made. It’s no mystery why, either. They’re competing against tv contracts of pro corn hole, major league poker, and god knows what else escaped The Ocho.

I won’t be watching rookie or G League basketball unless there is someone I want to get a sneak peak of. It’s not about teams, but the individual players. I want to see Dalton Knecht become an immediate contributor this coming season. I am also curious to see if Springer or Phillips make a full time roster. I am curious to see if Vescovi and James make a roster. Some of these guys will never be televised again on national tv after this summer league. For my own curiosity, I want to know why they did or did not make it.

I am especially happy to see Jordan Bowden keeping up with some of these younger kids that had more prolific college careers due to circumstances.

Later game yesterday. Kennedy Chandler had a good scoring game. It’s easy to forget that Chandler had a freakish wingspan for his height and was lightning quick. If he continues to develop his body, I would see him becoming a starter in the NBA.

I don't know about a starter in the NBA, but he can definitely earn a roster spot and/or be a solid back-up PG for a lot of NBA teams, imo

Where’s Edey? He was the best player out of all of them just a couple months ago.

Box scores suggest that he had a 14-point game (with 6 fouls 🤣), then a bunch of DNPs, then a 6-point game, and then DNPs due to ankle injury)

There are probably a few exceptions to the rule but in general NBA teams don't play starters in summer league. It's for development. think of it like rookie minicamp in the NFL. Its pre-preseason to figure out who is gonna make roster, get 2 ways etc. For instance most teams haven't signed both their 2 way but they will probably start doing those the exhibit 10 contracts for players they want to take longer look at over the next week or so.

Looks like the NBA doesn’t have a problem calling his games. I remember the NCAA media saying he’s near impossible to figure out how to call for, as he elbowed his way through the paint.

I wouldn’t think NBA has any room for development. There’s only 3 of these 2-way contracts per team and really meant for players who’ve only been in the league less than 3 years.
Sure, players who are undrafted can get those contracts but there’s little wiggle room. When NBA teams talk development, those players are already 1st-2nd rounders who aren’t ready to start day 1. They aren’t trying to develop them to be on their roster. They already are in their roster.

You just said they have no room for development then exactly described how they go about it. The entire purpose of 2 ways and exhibit 10's is developmental players. 2 way contracts go to UNDRAFTED players. Did you know a player who signs a 2 way is more likely to stick around on a roster than one drafted in 2nd round. Most 2nd rounders are out of the League before their first season is up. You say three 2 ways isnt a lot? Teams only get 2 draft picks a year so each year they have more guys on 2 way/exhibit 10 than draftees. 3-4>2 its simple math.
