Vols jump the shark

In 4 short years, CJH has taken the Vols from laughing stock to having a legitimate shot at a NC.

Imagine having only to beat Vandy to get into the CFP, and almost certainly a home playoff game.

In 2022, the Vols beat Florida, @Brian Kelly, Nick Saban and Dabo. This year we beat Florida, Alabama and @Oklahoma. None of this was on our bingo card 4 years ago.

And the breaks have come our way, with OMiss, Alabama and TAMU losing last week. At least 3 teams ranked above us will lose at least 1 game before the final CFP bracket. Highly unlikely we'll play Georgia before the Final 4, if at all.

Big Orange faithful have good reason to believe we handle Vandy Saturday. Once again (!) Tennessee leads the SEC in rushing (RB Dylan Sampson is a lock for SEC POY (so was HHooker)) and the Defense is as good as any in FBS. With plenty of depth on both sides of the ball. These fundamentals are what great teams have had going back forever.

And, importantly, CJH has instilled in our boys the confidence to perform under great pressure. Starting with the TAMU game last year, the Vols started winning close games that we had been losing for a decade.

Vandy is more formidable than in decades past. Still, I'd rather be us than them right now.
I'm not sure you understand the phrase "jump the shark".

If UT fans remember....even in Vandy's bad days and we had Peyton Manning and talent out the butt we won some ugly games against Vandy....as in close ugly games. We were at least 4 TDs better in those close wins.
Vandie coach Robert "Woody" (wacky) Widenhofer had been defensive coach for Pittsburgh Steelers & always frustrated Peyton with his schemes. Still Tennessee won the games. I expect Lea & his commode-doors to throw all sorts of things at Nico & he offense, but it shouldn't matter. GBO.

Nico must have a good day. Vanderbilt is ranked 36th best run defense; however, they rank in the low 90’s against the pass. We cannot afford turnovers. If we take care of the football and our defense holds we should beat them up pretty good.
Gotta contain their QB and his legs too.

You are correct about the defense being as good as any.

I had a professor at UTK that used this phrase all the damn time, it drove me freaking insane. I had to google it the first time he used it, Happy Days was before my time. lol

Can you imagine what the scrimmages were like for Vandy under Widenhofer in 1997?
Their anemic triple option offense vs. that smothering and covering defense would have been ugly to watch.

In 1997 they had only 16 TDs.
They scored 138 points and opponents scored only 204.

True...But several have confused young Nico this season. I would not count Vandy out doing the same.

Not sure the OP understands the term jumped the shark -
But the point is an excellent one - we are kicking ass and taking names and then kicking the asses of the names we took!

Thankful for this coaching staff and AD!
And thankful for all Vols in this community !
I understand it perfectly.

Young is not the main issue for Nico. He can't throw the deep ball and throws behind the receivers on the slant. The only throws he's hit consistently are the WR screens.

Jumping the shark comes from the time when the television show "Happy Days" ratings had experienced a big decline. In desperation to up the ratings, they came up with the crazy gag of having Fonzi waterskiing, jumping a shark. It is a move of desperation. Please explain how it applies here to Coach Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteer Football Team.

Just curious, what do you think “jump the shark” means?

Winning this game is about jumping ahead early and forcing them to throw the ball. If we can get up bog early we can ride the eun game out. Cant let them do what they do pick away at 3-4 yards a carry then catch you sleeping and bomb over the top. Vandy is all about time of possession. Every game they have played this year the team that won time of possession wins the game with 0 exceptions. When Pavia is forced to pass they also lose. If he can pass within their system he is dangerous...if hes passing to catch up not so much.
