Just got back from the game, gang.... UT was clearly tired, and it showed. I have to give credit to Lipscomb; as Bertlekamp and Coach Pearl said, they had a great defensive plan. Lofton only took five shots, and only scored six points - that's not going to get it done. He needs to be taking 15 shots a game, minimum. Asumnu and Major played well. The officiating was terrible; they missed SEVERAL travelling calls on Lipscomb. Of course, I always think officiating is terribly biased against UT. And it's certainly the worst UT has shot the ball all year. Smith, Lofton and Watson all missed some wide-open 3s. Still, ugly though it was, a win is a win. The defense played well. Lipscomb got exactly 2, yes, 2 points in the paint. Major was player of the game, and deservedly so. Watson was 13-14 at the line; that's huge - senior leadership stepping up. If he's 8-14 or 9-14, it's a much tighter game down the stretch. But the big red flag to me is that Lipscomb, much like us, is not a big team either, and their one big player (Durant?) got into early foul trouble and eventually fouled out, yet UT still got outrebounded handily. That really bothers me. I expect that we're going to lose the rebounding battle in quite possibly every single SEC game, but we should AT LEAST be outrebounding another smallish team like Lipscomb.
To be fair, though, Lipscomb came to play, and they had already travelled to Kentucky and Auburn, so they are accustomed to SEC-level play. They will be very, very tough in their conference. And good ol' Wimp Sanderson's (remember him?) son is their coach.
