I recently moved to Albuquerque NM from Charleston SC. I have lived in coastal NC as well. I grew up in the Tri Cities. I never had the thought of following anything but UT sports while I lived in Tarheel, Tiger or Gamecock territory but now that I live outside of the SEC footprint, I think I'm going to follow the Lobos. I love the community and culture here. It's a great place. Not to mention the mascot is pretty cool and the colors are as well. UNM will never replace the orange blood in my veins. I'm just surprised that I actually want to root for the local home team.

Does anyone else have a similar sentiment or experience?

Yes, I live in Indiana and grew up rooting for the Hoosiers. I went on vacation to Tennessee my senior year of high school and fell in love. I've followed UT since then. I still root for IU in basketball mostly. And I also root for Indiana State since my family has gone there and I live in the same town. I'm like a 5 minute walk from their campus.

I know ISU for Larry Bird, I loved his style even though I was never a big fan of the Celtics. I respect Hoosier bball. I would love to see a return to prominence for IU and them put teams like UConn and Zaga back in their place. Bobby Knight was a legend, I would be tickled if the next coach after Barnes carries himself like BK. 🍻

I suppose I will pull for Georgia State while I am an employee (as long as we aren't playing them).

I did (and still do) have a soft spot for 'Cuse growing up in NY.

I live within an hour or so of Clemson, Georgia tech, Georgia state, and them smelly puppies in Athens. I'll never pull for Georgia, against anybody 😅

Tried to root for auburn since my oldest daughter was cheerleadering down there. It didn't go well but I will say I had on my buck Fama shirt on and if I had accepted everyone's beer that was offered to me I would have been dead in the street in a matter of minutes

No. I’ve attended athletic events that didn’t include Big Orange teams, but root for non-Vols? Neaux.

The older I get, the broader my perspective and the more Orange my fandom. There are only Vols for me.

And as this old UT alum fades away, my thoughts will be of the Vols, the Vols, the Vols…

What are you going to do without suffering through annual oppressive humidity in the summer?

I grew up at the tail end of the Bobby Knight run. My first real memory was IU coming up to Indiana State and losing on a buzzer beater. Then it was the 2002 final four run that had the epic comeback win over a stacked Duke team. I'd love to see IU get back to national prominence but I have my doubts.

I worked security for the Miami Hurricanes for several years but was never a fan...Almost all the kids I met from those teams were very nice but I just could not get into them at all.

While I'm not a huge Vol fan(even though I have to admit I was happy to root for them when they won it all in baseball. Even against my favorite UNC.... it was hard not to. It just seems meant to be,and Cool to see happen), I lived in Tennessee for 29 years until recently, and always stayed a loyal Carolina fan. Saturday visits during the fall are always fun as is basketball season to watch football and basketball with my step-dad. Die-hard UT fan and Die-hard Tarheels fan who both enjoy the opposing team as both of us have won each other to the other side on occasion.

My Dad has family in Q and they have been following Lobos for 50 years. It's not very rewarding, but if you don't care that much about winning, they all seem to be having a good time.

I have lived in Utah and AZ for almost my entire adult life and have tried to care about their college sports, and I just don't. I even went to BYU and I'm not even sure I can call myself a casual. I do find myself caring about the pro sports wherever I live, though.

I was stationed at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque and attended UNM…really miss Sadie’s. It was a cool scene.

I’ve lived in DFW the past 29 years and never rooted for SMU…or any Texas universities.
