Vols loss not a shock for many

An 18 point a** whipping for the 2 seeded Buckeyes is clearly worse than our game, but we don't see the same language used to describe it.

By my count there were 13 official upsets in the first 2 rounds.

Based on seeding differentials they fall as follows (from smallest to largest upset):

Bucknell over Ark. (1)

Alabama over Marquette (3)
NC State over Cal (3)

Wichita State over UT (5)
Georgetown over Ohio State (5)
George Mason over Michigan State (5)
Wisc.-Milwaukee over Oklahoma (5)

Texas AM over Syracuse (7)
Montana over Nevada (7)

Bradley over Pitt (8)
George Mason over UNC (8)

Bradley over Kansas (9)

Northwestern State over Iowa (11)

Looks like Syracuse, Nevada, Pitt, UNC, Kansas and Iowa were more than "shocked".

I agree completely. Add UNC to your list - media darling barely advances. Couisnard has the game of his life from beyond the arc yet he's talking smack.

Trash Wingate for late turnovers but praise him for his play the rest of the game - he kept us in it. Trash the shot selection but that's the shot selection we've used ALL YEAR! Most of the times it worked but we've seen where it doesn't. Trash Bradshaw for a bad shot but praise him for all the big plays he made inside....

Overall, I agree that the 2 seed was too high but there's several ways to look at the game yesterday and Climer found the most negative way to do so.

:hi: I don't believe any Vol Fan who's been around the Big Orange for over a week expected anything from Climer other than negativism. He hasn't seen anything good in the Vols since Tennessee got its nickname for the number of Volunteers that joined the Army in the Spanish-American War. :gun:

i think i was more upset about the loss because of the reaction it would garner from the media types who would just say "i told you so" about TN beeing over seeded.

And truth be known, they probably were over seeded. at least they were if you had seen them play at all this year.

i think most people forget that TN wasn't on TV all that much, and not everyone got to see them play, espeically late in the season. If you saw them play, you'd probably say that's 4 or 5 seed.

But what a lot of people did see, in contrast, was a gret resume. top 6 rpi, top 3 strength of schedule and 21 wins, including at TX, at UK, at UF....all very impressive on paper. So from that standpoint, i understand why we got the two seed. but having seen this team play, i knew, as i'm sure most of you did, this was NOT a true 2 seed.

Now, i'm not going to give it back. it is quite the accomplishment and they did "deserve" it. The problem with the tourney is that it's all about matchups. And the two teams that UT played matched up well against us. period.

Then you have to weigh the original expectations of the team vs. the actual results and residual expectaions from those results. Given the two seed and the bracke they were in, it wasn't out of this world to expect to get in to the Sweet 16. and being disappointed that we didn't make it is ok. So long as it doesn't overshadow the respect all of us probably have for this team for accomplishing all they did.

So, should they have made it to the Sweet 16? yes. Am i upset that they didn't? yes. but do i now call this season a failure or a diappointment? hell no. Great job. And if that's how you feel, then good for you. at the end of the day everyone knows what this team did was remarkable.

It just shows how wide open this Tournament is and the parity in The College Game...I mean even in the 1 vs 16 game it was very competitive...Just ask UCONN

Geez, Climer is a bonehead. Overall the basketball program hs the best momentum it's had in years. The recruiting class is solid, tons of blue chippers are seriously looking at us for the 2007 class. We've gone from 14-17 to 22-8 and a 2 seed (based on RPI a good choice, based on the wheels falling off late, a bad choice). We've sold more popcorn at the Tommy Bowl than in many years past, etc., etc. Climer is Climer, just another talking head in Vandy land. There's some commode-door jealousy popping out in that article.
