i think i was more upset about the loss because of the reaction it would garner from the media types who would just say "i told you so" about TN beeing over seeded.
And truth be known, they probably were over seeded. at least they were if you had seen them play at all this year.
i think most people forget that TN wasn't on TV all that much, and not everyone got to see them play, espeically late in the season. If you saw them play, you'd probably say that's 4 or 5 seed.
But what a lot of people did see, in contrast, was a gret resume. top 6 rpi, top 3 strength of schedule and 21 wins, including at TX, at UK, at UF....all very impressive on paper. So from that standpoint, i understand why we got the two seed. but having seen this team play, i knew, as i'm sure most of you did, this was NOT a true 2 seed.
Now, i'm not going to give it back. it is quite the accomplishment and they did "deserve" it. The problem with the tourney is that it's all about matchups. And the two teams that UT played matched up well against us. period.
Then you have to weigh the original expectations of the team vs. the actual results and residual expectaions from those results. Given the two seed and the bracke they were in, it wasn't out of this world to expect to get in to the Sweet 16. and being disappointed that we didn't make it is ok. So long as it doesn't overshadow the respect all of us probably have for this team for accomplishing all they did.
So, should they have made it to the Sweet 16? yes. Am i upset that they didn't? yes. but do i now call this season a failure or a diappointment? hell no. Great job. And if that's how you feel, then good for you. at the end of the day everyone knows what this team did was remarkable.
