Made a png file for a signature I'm working on. It's pretty close IMO. This thread needed a bump anyway.

I hand painted a pair of them, one for me, one for my dad's office.

They look a little vintage and rough, but that's what I like about them.

After three years, I'm finally getting around to using Kiddiedoc's method from the first page of this thread. I moved to a new house and figured it'd be a cool way to commemorate the first football season in the new homestead. Anyway, here's what I picked up from Kinko's today:

So far so good. (The color looks better than it does in this rather lifeless photo.) I'll report in with my final results after attacking it with the knife this weekend.

(A couple of notes from Kinko's: they did not like the Publisher file, saying something about how they couldn't guarantee that the color would be right. So they had me convert it to a PDF first. Also, they "don't print in Pantone colors," so they just used whatever color they got out of the PDF. Needless to say, I was a little concerned that the color wouldn't turn out right, but now that I have it home to compare to other UT swag, I'm satisfied. Our orange really is an awful color to match. Finally, having this printed out and mounted cost me $48 (!) at Kinko's, which is about $20 more than I was expecting. But it looks good.)

V'rix: looks good. Are you cutting yet? I used a T-square and exacto knife, and I drew the curves freehand while looking at an actual pic.

As for the printing difficulties: I don't remember having an issue, but they should have been able to convert it easily (if you had someone who knew their stuff).

One more thing: nice Torpedo there. Have been wanting to try SN's IPA. Any good?

I stuck the sign inconveniently far away in a downstairs closet; I know myself well enough to know that I just LOVE to start projects like that about 1 in the morning after a few beers and the family has gone to bed. I don't need to go anywhere near that thing with a knife tonight. I don't think I got the most knowledgeable Kinko's person in the world, which is why she balked at the Publisher file. It was no problem to convert it to PDF. I was a little worried that there would be some sort of conversion weirdness -- a spacing problem, a font substitution, something -- but it came out fine. Your file is pretty well bang-on.

Torpedo is pretty delicious. I'm at sort of a weird point with IPAs right now -- I've grown so used to the modern double (or even triple) IPAs that I pretty much have to be smacked in the face with hops to enjoy them, but at the same time I don't really like the high-gravity arms race that has lead so many of them to be 9 or even 10 percent alcohol. Drink four beers and your head is fuzzy the next morning. Torpedo is a full-on well-hopped IPA, but at "only" 7 percent, you can have a few without grousing the next morning about your undeserved hangover. I'm not really into most of Sierra Nevada's beers anymore, but Torpedo is fairly outstanding IMO.

I contacted this guy via email, a few months ago, named Allen Hammond who makes the signs. He already had a few made and mailed me one for $70, including shipping. The quality is excellent; the outline of the state of TN looks to be per scale. It hangs in my home office. He was great to deal with and sent it to me sooner than I expected.

His email is: allen.hammond@gmail.com

Pretty clear that there isn't really a "standard" sign, if you compare that locker room picture to the one Kiddiedoc used. Sometimes the state borders are more realistic; sometimes the "all" is underlined. It would be interesting to know what the story is with that.

I believe that there is actually a newer version that has a more detailed border. Mine is based off what I believe is the older/original design. Don't sweat the difference...either way your sign will be a great addition.

Tracing the outline with a Sharpie was sphincter-tightening enough without having to worry about the actual undulations of the Mississippi River. Believe me, I am unconcerned about the anatomical correctness of this thing. Nobody's going to be driving around with it on his lap trying to find Dyersburg.

Right on. IIRC, I poured a nice JD, glanced at the computer screen, and let the magic flow. You are going to start the Dooley era with a great new conversation piece. I just hope it's a lucky one.

Go Vols.

No knife yet. There's a brand new keg of Arthur Guinness's Finest Porter on tonight in the kitchen. I want this sign up and mounted, but not enough to sacrifice a fingertip for it.

Here is mine, minus the words. If I ever get off of work at a decent time I will visit the local sign shop and have the letters printed out in vinyl.

I'm going to start making some of my UT jerseys available for sale (probably about 25-30 of them).

There are a couple of replicas that will be up as well as a bunch of gamers; the gamers will be $100 apiece plus $10 shipping. Replicas will be $40 plus $10 shipping.

I'll have a complete list up for sale tonight. Most of the players fall into the time frame of around 1992-98, although there are a few on either side of that. And yes, there are some star players in there.

Got any jerzeys left? I'd be interested, if the right shirt.

Does anybody know of a place where I can get a replica of the Vols locker room sign, "I will give my all for Tennessee today? So far google has not proven up to the task. I wouldn't mind having it for a car decal either. Figure it would be something a little different.

Try a sign shop. I worked at Allen Sign on Chapman highway years ago in Knoxville and got one made but it was only about half the size of the one in the locker room. It still got slapped everyday as I walked out my front door.

While walking from the stadium back to the boat launches, I saw a guy holding a bunch of wooden replica signs....pretty good quality. He was across the street from the boat house.....maybe check there next weekend.

Wow, I just replied to a really old post.
