Vols move up to #2

A well deserved ranking for UT and the players who've put in the work these past few years. And it's worth remembering that two of Tennessee's 3 losses came in games where the other team had 10 less fouls and shot 15-20 more free throws than the Vols. Two very interesting statistical outliers.

That #2 is going get tested, but the road to a top seed in the tournament doesn't look impossible. Hell of a place to be, considering what people said about Tennessee's chances coming into this season. Love to see it, especially for all those guys who put on the orange. Hope Tennessee's best basketball this year is still to come!

Isn't Iowa State in the Big 12?

Yep, can't keep them straight, Iowa and Iowa State are not in the same conference, the Illinois I looks like the I in the Iowa State logo, maybe Purdue will be just as confused, lose to Iowa, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin to see if Tennessee can get back to number one.

Lean year for Big 10 basketball all the way around,

Purdue’s schedule rest of the way out is a lot easier than ours. We’ll drop a couple and that’s ok.

FWIW - I haven't really compared the schedules but ESPN's computer model has Purdue's remaining schedule ranked 13th and ours ranked 23rd. Both are ranked higher than most of the top ranked teams. Most of the Big12 teams have highly ranked remaining schedules because their conference is so good.

Wow Texas remained at # 10!
And Kansas moved up a spot after losing to Baylor last week for their third straight loss. I guess they get a ton of credit for beating Kentucky. Also, Iowa State only dropped one spot after getting spanked by unranked Missouri.

Big 12 teams are going to get a mulligan and the benefit of the doubt because their conference is seen as the best in the nation. You aren’t going to see those teams drop as far down the seed lines after a loss unlike other conferences. You will really have to have those teams lose a few games in a row before it affects them much.

People made fun of me for wanting the SEC to win the challenge. Perception is half the battle. Right now the Big 12 is considered dominant and the SEC is considered weak.

Yeah, it is just interesting to me how the polls shook out. Texas and Iowa State both lost by double digits with Iowa State losing to unranked Missouri by 17. TCU lost by 7 in OT to unranked Mississippi State. Texas stayed at #10, Iowa State dropped one spot and TCU dropped four spots. Also, I was a little irritated listening to Jay Bilas during the UK-KU game constantly hyping how great the Big 12 is and mentioning how even unranked Oklahoma, who is toward the bottom of their conference, blew out Alabama. He never mentioned that unranked Missouri and unranked Mississippi State, who are toward the bottom of the SEC handled two of their top teams, though. At the end of the day, all I really care about is our Vols but it was interesting how it all was portrayed and how the polls ended up.

Calling it now. Purdoodoo will lose on the road at Indiana and Houston will lose on the road to Temple this week. Vols win at Florida and vs Auburn to take the #1 spot. Alabama will win vs Vanderbilt and at LSU to take the #2 spot. As long as both teams win the following week, this will setup a #1 vs #2 matchup at TBA 😁

Last week the following ranked teams lost (could be more, looked quickly): # 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19, 20, 25. If you lose, there’s gotta be someone else out there to jump you, which won’t happen if everyone else lost too (there were a lot of ranked-ranked matchups last week).

Would be great to see, but I really dislike being the hunted. We don't seem to handle lofty rankings very well at UT. Maybe because it's something we don't experience all that often?
