Vols need to do like Notre Dame in Sun Bowl

Watch that game to see how to handle opposing teams on third and long. ND is rushing five or six every time, none of that stupid lay back and let them get 15-20 yards. Tennessee's weakness.
Many many times we did rush that many and they would get picked up.

Need more explosive defensive players at every level. Even James Pearce gets tired

Send this game film to the Kentucky staff - they think you can only rush 3 when you’re up by 5 late in the 4th quarter

Yup. Rush 5 or 6 and don't get to the QB in time, you're probably giving up a 20+ yard play.
How many times have we seen Tennessee rush only three and give up 20+ yards? Far more often than when we brought the heat. If you put a hard rush on the quarterback he only has about two seconds to throw. How far can a receiver get down the field in two seconds from a dead start and if you bump them at the line?

Especially if you play zone on the back end... if you don't get to the QB, there are big holes in the zone to throw to.

TN has routinely experienced this under Banks & Martinez. Now, is it the players or scheme, or both? I guess we'll find out going forward.

Just watched Kentucky get beat because they started "setting back and playing soft". They started rushing three and putting NO pressure on the quarterback. With only 50 seconds to go Clemson went 50 yards.
John Madden said "the prevent defense, prevents you from winning"
To be fair to them, they reason they lost is more about the 3 turnovers inside their own 30 on 3 straight drives to start the 4th quarter than anything else.

Auburn lost to Bama this year by rushing only 2 on the last play of the game, Bama qb had all day to throw. I prefer blitzing on 3rd or 4th and long.

Wanna bet Iowa changes their stripes and blitzes the beegeebers outta Nico? I would.

Vols need to watch that ND game because that is exactly what Iowa will be doing, especially against an.untested QB.

I feel The same way. Bring the heat, make the qb make a quick read and pass and see if the receiver can create separation, and break a tackle and then get the yardage. A qb with a lot of time back there will find an open receiver
