Vols Need to Move Out of Play In Game!

It all boils down to Thursday. All the bracketologists now have Arkansas and Tennessee as the last four in. The team that wins if Arkansas gets by their first game dances. The other does an about face to the NIT!

Our game is on Friday.

Only speculation. Right now most brackets have them there, but there are 3 11 seed slots not requiring a play in game, same for the 12 seed.

Speculation versus the selection committee. We are in is the most important factor. We are a tough match up for most teams in this tourney.

If officials call it tight then our style of phial play might hurt us.

Currently, the three 12s without a play-in game are all teams projected to receive auto bids. So, if that stands, the only at-large team with a 12 will be a play-in winner. If we avoid the play-in game, we'll be at least an 11.

One more win gets us outta the play-in game convo. Two more puts us firmly at the 8 or 9 seed mark. And three more has us fight for one of the 6 or 7 seeds. This is all just my opinion. Would that be close tho, ya think?

That sounds way optimistic to me.

I think one more win puts us solidly in. Maybe still in a play-in. Two more wins gets us out of play-in game for sure. Win the whole thing and we are single digit, but 6 seed is a pipe dream, IMO. I'm not Joe Lunardi, though. I will admit I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I think a 6 seed is possible. Beat Arkansas, Florida and UK? That's pretty damn impressive and would get them at least a 6 seed IMO.

Although I guess in winning the tourney, if we went through UF we could get close to a 6 or 7. I mean that would be a huge win.

So basically never mind whatever I said before.

Your numbers are still off. Half of the play in games are between the lowest ranked teams in the field. They will all be 16 seeds and are only in the tourney because of their leagues auto bid and a 16 has never beaten a 1. UT will not be in one of those games. Now if you want to talk about the play in games UT might be in you are talking about the 2 games that match-up the last 4 at-large bids. 4 teams x 3 years equals 12 teams. Of that number, according to you, 2 have made it to the round of 32. 2/12 is about 17% which is a reasonable number considering how low of seeds we are talking about. Again, in not arguing that an 12 seed in the play in game is better than a 10 or 11 seed without the play-in game. I am arguing that if you want to make the sweet 16 you are better off as an 11 or 12 seed with a play in game than as an 8 or a 9. 8's and 9's just don't make the sweet 16 that often.

The #10 seed seems to be the sweet spot. They've got more elite 8's than even the 5 seeds do. But the bad side of the 8 seed is that no team lower than an 8 has ever played for the championship and 12-16 has a total of 1 elite eight combined.

That's what I was thinking as well. Its a lot easier to justify a 6 or 7 seed to a team with 23 wins, just won your conference tourney, and is from a power conference. Even if that power conf. is the SEC. lol

Wonder what seed UConn got in 2011. Our dream scenario would sound a lot like their run. And they had a pretty rotten record until the last 3 or games of their season and conf. tourney.

Funny how someone earlier didn't consider that to be a high seed to face in the second round. Would much rather be a six seed waiting on a 11 seed coming out of a playoff game than the opposite! Go, Vols! Do what the Lady Vols did!

I would love an 11 seed for the Vols. Beat the 6 and take a run at the 3 and see what happens.

Yeah, I suppose that's possible.
Those wins would move the meter quite a bit.

From a play-in game to a 6 with three wins seems unrealistic, but the resume would be much improved.
1-2 more Top 25 wins and 2 more Top 50 wins right there, along with a win over another Bubble team.

Based on the last two years (and before), I think we're more likely to lose on Friday than anything else. Hopefully, the team will continue the inspired play of the past week.

Pretty much fact. Vols by 25 in a cake walk over the hogs. See you in the NIT razorbacks. Just one Vols opinion.:)
