Agree with the Granny Clampett thing and Holtz inability to beat UT at Minnesota,ND and SC. One thing about this topic is true though, as long as Randy Sanders is OC at Tennessee Gameday will be elswhere. HE, Sanders that is, KILLS our credibility!

Thanks to Sports Pickle for paying tribute to one remarkable college football analyst: Coach Lou Holtz.

Lou Holtz describes USC-Notre Dame games as: “Thwhup nuhth piffft”

Moments after Saturday’s classic battle between USC and Notre Dame, former Irish head coach and current college football analyst Lou Holtz went on the air and summed up the game this way: “Thwhup nuhth piffft irusch flaaaap thiiiip an chrochins.”

Holtz went on to describe Charlie Weis’s game plan as “ffffwap loupth kffff,” Matt Leinart’s clutch performance as “siffth liniff buiph blipz,” and USC’s chances to win its third-straight national championship as “gulipsy sssssssph.”

“It’s those kind of clear opinions that set Lou apart from other analysts,” said ESPN college football producer Brian Lyles. “I guess my only problem with him is that I get drenched in spit every time I get within 20 feet of him. But beyond that, he transforms what’s on the teleprompter into something I’ve never heard before.”

why are we ripping holtz for. if your going to rip on holtz you'll have to rip on nearly every broadcaster in america. we deserve to be laughed at we are the laughing stock of the sec on offense right now. everybody knows it. untill we can show anything at all we will continue to be made a joke of, and be the best underachieving in the sec. we will have to see what happens in the alabama game to know how much if any respect we will get.

Well said...Hey Tennessee fans! WAKE UP, we are not very good this year! It is not mean to say that, it is OK to be bad some years...

Ask Florida if they are happy with their offense... or maybe Cock fans about how great the "Cock and Shoot" offense is working to win ballgames. C'mon, things haven't gone very well thus far but we still beat an LSU team that everyone said was going to put lumps on our heads. The scarriest things for opponents is even knowing how bad we've been thus far, if we played like they know we can, they would lose every time.

I agree that we haven't been very good so far so we shouldn't be steamed when people say that we aren't. That's not what Lou and Reese did though. They started laughing at the thought of us beating ND.

It's one thing to say that Tennessee hasn't been very good on offense and they don't think we will get the win. It's another to start laughing Mark May off the set and telling him people won't take him seriously as a sports analyst if he keeps saying things like that.

It's all about the delivery.

Hey Vol Nation!

You guys are hilarious talking about Lou Holtz! I’ve been laughing ever since I opened this thread today. You’re right too! Holtz does seem to have a speech impediment almost to the point of needing a dribble glass to catch the slobber.

I did want to mention something I have noticed in this thread in particular. I’m a little disappointed anytime fans begin to criticize their own team. Bama fans are notorious for it. We’re never satisfied and often call for heads to roll before giving a coaching staff time to establish their system. We have been guilty of sometimes being juuuust a tiny bit trigger happy with our staff. Even I have been guilty of whining and complaining privately (not on a board) in years past. It’s actually somewhat embarrassing the way some fans act.

But I have also discovered (the hard way) that no matter how bad you think things are…they can get a whole lot worse. Believe me…we know. Teams can have their ranks depleted and game results altered with but the stroke of a pen. They can lose 2 QBs, 4 or 5 Rbs, 3 TE’s, 3 FBs and even more and be expected to compete in the SEC.
UT has lost 2 games to 2 very fine football teams. Hey, there were years when we only WISH we’d have had 2 losses. So I think it is a little unfair to your team to say that they aren’t very good. They are! And Bama fans expect the UT fans to show up in droves and cheer hard for UT this Saturday. We feel confident that you guys will.

All I’m saying is, try not to slam your team so hard. I don’t think it is a case of your team being significantly weaker this year. Its just that other teams are getting a bit better than they have been. This isn’t the Big East or the PAC 10, where 1 team can dominate. The SEC is strong this year. It’s a meat-grinder. And I’m not sure if anyone will make it through undefeated.

So lets all show up ready to cheer for our teams!

(and save some BBQ for me).

I appreciate the sentiment. It is very hard to explain why other teams are getting better and UT seems to be getting worse.

We were expecting a decent offense this year, and the fans have gotten a swift kick to the groin. It doesn't feel very good.

Don't get me wrong. 3:30 Saturday, I will be glued to the TV, beer in hand, hoping that this is the week our offense wakes up. If it doesn't happen, my only recourse is to complain.

i'm not saying lou holtz was right or wrong. i like may a heck of alot better than i like holtz, but for may to say we can give notre dame some problems is a overstatement. right now we could have problems against south carolina if our offense isn't fixed and right now there is no indication it will be. i like may he likes tennessee so he will always be alright in my book, but i agree with holtz unless something happens dramatically with our offense we are in for a long night when we go to south bend.

If they ever were to find Lou Holtz's brain and place it in a nutshell, it would roll around like a bee-bee in a football stadium.

Well let me say this... Shula is rather smart and will figure out the Sanders Offense.

Think of the dumbest play to run in any situation and send in the defense for it.

Damn they actually tried that Draw again.

Thats the 3rd time they tried that on 3 and 22

I saw USC run a draw twice on 3rd and long vs. ND so it's not just us. Funny thing was the USC fans at the bar sounded just like the people here. It's a play that could catch a defense off-guard, especially if they have put in a couple extra DB's. Not that I agree w/ the call but it can work sometimes.

The chances of it working go up when you are handing the ball off to Reggie Bush.
