Vols Number 1 in AP

My car radio was set to a different station than i usually listen to today. It was two "sports guys" discussing how the Memphis loss to Arkansas St. was actually a good thing. How it will keep the team humble and AK ST. is preseason to win their conference so that really helps their schedule strength. Reminded me why I'm so very careful about the sports shows i listen to. Let me make one thing perfectly clear....NOTHING WAS GOOD ABOUT TIGERS LOSING BIG TO ARKANSAS STATE. šŸ˜… šŸ˜… Then on my walk I picked up The Sports Animal afternoon guys who i rarely listen to. THEY WERE DISCUSSING CHRISTMAS MOVIES! I put on a podcast so fast your head would spin.

Can someone who follows other teams closer than I do please tell us what the
strength of the Illinois team is? Who are the main threats for them?

99.1 is fake sports shows. Controlled and bought by advertisements.

Canā€™t claim that, but saw today they were ranked 19 before dropping a couple. Not that you donā€™t know, but Basketball doesnā€™t care about ranking or style or specific players. Any given dayā€¦ fortunately UT is in a better spot to play a lesser team than most years.

You must have been listening to John Martin on 92.9. He and his partner do nothing but shill for the Tigers and discuss the Grizz. You wouldnā€™t know this town is in the state of TN and, as you know from living here, it is infected with a huge inferiority complex when it comes to UT.

Martin is a notorious Tennessee hater who said the last two days have just been horrible for him. UT basketball #1 and UT football makes the playoffs. By the end of the conversation though they were begrudgingly giving Rick Barnes some credit. It was so pitiful I had to laugh.

Prob right. I listened to maybe 2 minutes and starting laughing. It was absurd and a twinge embarrassing. Actually one of the few programs I listen to is John Wilkerson on early morning walks. They generally stick to sports. Having been in radio media many years ago I was taught two lessons. NEVER have dead air time (each second is costing us money) and NEVER try to entertain the other host on the air because no one else will be entertained šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø.

Illinois looks very legit in my limited viewing. Looked flat Better than Arky by my eye test. This will test us to the core. Have excellent big, play inside out, have athletes, good coaching. Dangerous on the road IMO.

I'm curious to see if Auburn jumps the Vols as #1 in the polls this week. They have an impressive 5-1 Q1 record and are #1 in the net rankings. I know rankings mean nothing at this point.

Anythingā€™s possible, but it would be highly unusual for the undefeated #1 ranked team to drop after a Q1 road victory and a one loss team jump above them.

I think & hope we do not play in an environment like Illinois fans brought and the refs were letting crowd and coach influence their calls. IMO Underwood swung the calling in his favor especially 2nd half. In the end when they hadn't been called enough fouls against Illini to were they had to intentional foul to get UT to the bonus, to have a chance to win, a small bit of Karma.šŸ˜‰ This IMO is a game few teams would have won with their top 2 players & Okpara in foul trouble the whole game. To me this game told me more about the Grit of the Vols, very strong national win on a national stage and Jordan Gainey willed them to a win..

For sure. Auburn is an excellent team and had a really great win yesterday at home against a power opponent.

Tennessee, though, had two wins against power opponents last week at a neutral site and on the road. Auburn played only one team.

Punishing the higher-ranked team for winning more games at more difficult sites would be odd.

Without checking the schedule, both bama and Auburn have similar home crowds with the students close to the floor

Itā€™s dreadful. The shows are too long so they fill the air with worthless discussion and commercials. When I hear any ā€œStart, Sit, Cutā€ segment itā€™s an immediate station swap. I donā€™t care how youā€™re rating Skittles, Nerds, and M&Ms. Totally meaningless.

Yep, I agree and both coaches are very good at working the ref. The crowd at Illini may be and probably will be matched in the SEC but this was a good barometer moving forward. Because I think Illinois is a candidate for sweet 16 this year and then its about matchups.

dont think so ā€¦. Auburn crushed a lower end big 10 team on neutral floorā€¦. We go to Illinois beat top 3 big 10 team on true road victory . Not so sure Illinois even wins the big 10 when said n done
