Vols out of Taxslayer Bowl consideration

My guess would be the Music City Bowl, UT fans are excited enough to travel anymore

I definitely think its in state, (due to travel) but I think it would be Liberty. Which is fine with me, Music City / Liberty ..who really cares. Ill go to either if I can use some military connections to score some free tickets. Nashville is only a two hour drive max for me. Memphis is a little further but I don't mind it. Heading there Friday for the St. Jude Marathon. I wouldn't mind going back for a bowl game. At least there is plenty of good food and maybe the griz will be in town the same time.

I'm thinking it plays out like this:
Auburn-Sugar
Florida-Citrus
LSU-Outback
Kentucky-Belk or Gator

I think we will take the Liberty Bowl this year. Already been to Nashville once this year, and I think Georgia heads there. Vandy in the Birmingham bowl.

Kentucky is tied for 2nd in the SECE and just beat Louisville. Ask yourself if we really deserved to go to the Taxslayer when went? We were 4th in the east that year.

Kentucky is 4th in the East because if tie breakers. They aren't tied for 2nd. They are 4th in the East.........

Just so you guys know, we have a lot of UF grads/insiders on these FL bowl committees, and I've heard the agenda is to strongly push UF for the Outback. We don't want the Citrus or the Gator.

Look for us to be in the Outback vs. Nebraska. We refuse to play Miami in the Gator and we'd prefer to avoid the Citrus, which would feature a higher ranked Big 10 team (Michigan left a bad taste in our mouths last year). The Outback is just right for us this year and would give us the best chance to avoid another 3 game losing streak to end the year.

First of all I'm not putting UT down so know what you're talking about before running off at the mouth (thank you). Second of all, you can't sit there and tell me that you would EVER have thought that Kentucky would be an option over Tennessee

I do agree with this

Have you thought about who the SEC team will play in the bowl game? Try that before you open your mouth about UK getting picked over UT.

New bowl : Champions of Life Bowl. CBJ won't out live that statement.:jpshakehead:

Coaches say weird things when they can't tell the truth. Who would be happy if Butch came out and said what we all know?

"Our corners are playing soft because they have a lot of raw talent but need a lot more work. I had planned on Sutton and Martin being lock down corners and only playing Buchanan in mop up. Mosley will never be a # 1 or 2 corner but he's ok in nickel packages. Sutton got hurt and is still not 100%, he'a playing soft because he doesn't want to risk another injury that could cost him millions with 4 games left. Martin has gotten by on talent his whole life and never had to put in the classroom work needed to be a good corner at this level. Hopefully this season is a wake up call and he busts his butt during the off season. Evan Berry does not have good cover skills. He should only be playing in blowouts. Due to injuries he had to be a starter...then he got injured so the guy who was even worse than him has to start."

Tennessee takes 30-40 thousand fans with them.....

Don't think we will travel that well this year. Also, your argument was that Kentucky was projected in the Taxslayer and they didn't deserve it because they were 4th in the SECE, yet you were okay with us getting it when we were actually 4th in the SECE and not tied for 2nd like Kentucky is now.

Okie Dokie. I'm sure it weird for people to admit that bowls would prefer Kentucky over Tennessee, but that is were we are.

I could see that - once this gets past the automatic tie in - the teams will be lobbying for the best possible match up and/or location - and teams that need a positive outcome to end the year will definitely be pushing for that.

Interesting argument.

Did Iowa deserve to go?

I watched the game, and I can still see the carnage on the field, if anything Iowa was the team that didn't really deserve the Taxslayer bowl.

Vols are the laughing stock of sports pundits, from #9 to nothing in short order, but the Vols are still Champions for Life and the Bowl reps know this:eek:lol:

I don't think TN will travel well this time especially considering most fans will view whatever bowl TN gets as a step back this year and it will be.

That said, the most realistic option that will also improve ticket sales is the Music City Bowl and I'd guess that's where TN will go when its decided.

UK should be excited and one would think the Taxslayer would opt for UK over ARK based on the way UK finished.

Maybe, but they will not fill a lot of hotel rooms with because of its location to most Tennessee fans.

Right! And 19000 Vol fans were polled and 76% wants a new coach. That doesn't sound like a fanbase that's ready to travel.

Short memories for folks with the gift of 20/20 hindsight. EVERYONE was surprised when we got the taxslayer bowl.

Laatly, you cant, in the same argument, say that Kentucky doesnt deserve the Taxslayer bowl because their 4th in the east but Tennessee deserved the bowl when it was actaully 4th and not tied for 2nd but due to the breakers is 4th.

Gee lets evaluate the teams available.

1. Team a: chanpions of life, just got big boyed by Vanderbilt, historically bad defense and a very, very disappointed fanbase
2. Team b: winning record at a school that historically doesnt win, coming off a win against ita ranked in state rival with a heisman candidate quarterback, whose fanbase is not aware basketball season has started due. to the excitement around their football team

Pretty simple

That happens when you slip from favorite to win the division to dropping games to SC and Vandy in the back half, and Kentucky finishes with a win over the 11th ranked team in the country.
