Vols Question Marks

My response was to oklavol.

I think Cutcliffe will do a number of things to help the line out and that they'll be fine. I expect to see screens and draws along with some wicked traps to make Cal's DE pay for charging upfield.

Always hated getting trap blocked on situations like that. Three yards deep and happy then.... bam, white-eyed and confused because you can't hear your own thoughts.

No it doesn't; i agree 100% with you. I think Cut will probably run some screen plays as well as some play action plays to throw off the Cal D.

NO MORE SCREENS! It seemed like under Randy Sanders, we had 3 variations of a WR screen, and it worked 1 in 20 times. It could have been attributed to poor OL blocking out in space. I wouldn't mind us using it a little more sparingly, and my confidence in Cut is much much higher than it was in Sanders. However, Sanders learned from Cutcliffe, so who the heck knows?

I think UT's passing attack may look remarkably like ND's. Cut seemed to be impressed with Weis' ideas.

Screens only work if your lineman can actually get out in front to block. Last year, they couldn't waddle that fast.

When randy was here they didn't run the screen right; no one ever did what they where suppose to; i don't think that will be the case with Cut back. i think the screens will be to our awsome TB though, not the WR. Sanders was PF puppet!

Sanders invited it by not standing up and being the man.

There comes a time when a guy has to say, "Let me do it my way"... I'm not sure he even knew what "his way" was.

I only like screens when you fake a screen to the RB and throw back to the other side to a fullback or wide receivers. Everyone is coached on how to defend a screen. They aren't that effective.

Almost everyone did that last year with success. This is a real problem. UT's only strategy for this is throw the ball deep against man to man defense. That didn't work very good last.

That will basically shut down the running game. I hope Cutcliffe will come up with some strategy for this. I think 4 wr's was talked about to at least give UT an opportunity to run the ball against 7 men instead of 8.

The bottom line is UT's passing game doesn't get a lot of respect from defenses right now.

This is a real quandry for UT this year. On the one hand, it certainly would seem as though your inability last year to throw the ball made you very predictable and one dimensional. On the other hand, if you throw it a lot in the Cal game and you just aren't ready, you run the risk of falling so far behind you cannot use the running game to catch up.
