This is from another board and poster:

A starting player's parent just called to tell me that he had just talked to his son and:

1. Fellows will have an operation in the AM
2. The qb situation is so bad that the players(I don't know how many, that's just what he said) feel that Bo Hardegree is our best hope-makes few mistakes, knows playbook etc.
3. Kemp is coming along as db.
4. Meachem was 10 yards wide open behind Inky at Sat's scrimmage yet Ainge threw an interception to Inky!
5. Hardesty looked real good and some players think if he gets
well he could really, really, be good!
6. Coker really good, too.
7. Skuttle is: Sat's scrimmage will be designed to make Ainge look as good as possible, restore some confidence-if that's the problem!

I'd just call this Ainge hater insurance.

my brother's girlfriend's cousin who is dating a guy who's friend's brother knows a guy on the team told me...................................

this is why message boards should just stick to discussion and not "reporting".

I surely don't remember it happening that way. That play looked like a misread or the recevier ran the wrong route or slipped. He wasn't 10 yards behind Inky.

I think its entirely possible that some version of this was said but I cannot imagine that they would run a scrimmage INTENDING to falsely inflate Ainge's ego. That makes no sense to me. Scrimmage time is needed to work out kinks. I just can't see them having the players back off for the purpose of tricking Ainge into thinking he's playing well.

I don't find any of this inconsistent with what I have read about the last scrimmage and what people who went to the scrimmage reported here. Even Cutcliffe said Ainge's play was unacceptable. Most people were already beginning to have a high opinion of Coker and Hardesty as backs. I think the next scrimmage will be used to evaluate Crompton more. By most accounts he played fairly well, except for a few bad exchanges with the center.

I think Freak just shot down the one about Ainge underthrowing a a receiver by 10 yards.

Teams will have this talk while bonding in the beginning of the year. Hell it happens at work too. You tend to build cliques and if you ain't in it you ain't sh*t. Ainge got kicked off of the cool table last year. Ain't a nerd and ain't BMOC. If he wants to sit at the cool kid table at lunch he's going to have to earn his way back and gain respect from the team. Only way to do that is by working out the kinks and getting the job done.

Also think Sat scrimmage was simple. Not to make Ainge look good but just because that is the way the start every year. Hope the staff sees the writing on the wall if the skuttle is going around and straighten out the false perceptions.

No one in here who went to the scrimmage has said Ainge played well in the scrimmage. Everyone seemed disappointed with his play, including UT's coaching staff.

Understand, I did not make the above statements.:stop: It was a poster on another board. If you guys want to see the discussion thread that followed the post then sing out--I'll post the link. However, I imagine you guys know whence it came.

I agree. Everyone was disappointed . . . I was just saying that Freak clarified the play where Ainge got picked off by Inky Johnson. Doesn't really matter though whether it was a 10 yard underthrow or a miscommunication . . . the result sucked either way.

i think we're all just a bit anxious right now....so many questions, so few answers....but we're getting close....and i'd bet as we get closer, some of us will get worked up in to a pretty good frenzy over some of the smallest things...happens every year...

Don't misunderstand, I was not happy with what I saw from Ainge and he definitely underthrew some balls. However, I don't remember the intererception being a case where the receiver was open 10 behind the defender.

Saturday will go a long way toward answering many questions, Ainge has to bounce back for the Vols to bounce back

The first scrimmage is never acceptable from the offense's standpoint. Remember the first scrimmage from the NC team? Our offense sucked. It is about how you improve from scrimmage one to scrimmage two. I'd give it 14 or so hours before passing judgment on this team.

It's like pre-season in the pros. Who cares if everything is fine or dead then? When they say "It's football time in Tennessee!" and the clock starts, that is all that matters.
