He might be "the man" but he is no SEC COY. You know what...I don't think he'll ever be...

Doesn't it make you miss Buzz to read articles like this? Maybe if Tubby hired him Tyler Smith would sign with UK and Buzz could adopt him.

did anyone notice that when talking about the recruits going to TN and their respective rankings supplied by recruiting services, it was thrown in "if you believe those sort of things"?

i wonder if the same would have been printed if they went to UK or UF?????

i'm not big on recruiting rankings, but i just thought that was odd....

good read.

I don't think that meant anything negative towards UT basketball by that. I think it was just a general comment about exactly what rankings really are. The players on those lists are not always going to play to their rank.

GOOD COACHING, an EXCITING brand of bb, one of the best / biggest on campus facilities in the country, a long time coming, over due, anxious to participate fanbase just waiting at the door, a league that is coming into it's own, a program, campus, fanbase starving for heroes. One of the hardest working, innovative COACHING STAFFS in the US.

What else could a top flight recruit want.

I'll be ready for bb next year, I just wish I could see more of their games their not televised hardly at all in the north. I hope with their record and the fact they made it to the dance will put them on tv more.

I have a feeling that they'll be on the TV more next year. The media loves Pearl and Pearl complains about them not getting TV coverage about twice a day.

If you didn't think the Texas win was big read these answers from an interview with our guys:

Johnson
Favorite UT win: "The Texas game.''

Crews
Favorite UT Win(s): "The win at Texas, the first win against Florida, and the win at UK.''

Chism
Favorite UT win(s): "The Texas and Florida wins.''

Amazing the impact that one game had.

Tallest guy listed in that article is 6'6". Where are the big men? I don't know if you guys have any --- does anyone know if Pearl has managed to recruit some Noah or Horford types? I said months and months ago on here that come tournament time they let you play and you MUST have a big inside presence to last. I think a look at this year's Final Four proved me right on that. Pearl got anyone 6'10" or over?

And a look at the '05 Final Four would prove you wrong. Shawn May, who is generously listed at 6'8'', was the only real post presence on any of the clubs in the National Semifinals. Unless, of course, you want to try and convince all of us that Paul Davis was a big time player.

Well, Crews in 6'7" and Chism is 6'9". They have both held their own against taller posts.

Both were listed in that article.

I am sure that there are exceptions but I cannot imagine that anyone who has followed the NCAA tournament over the years does not think that in the big picture you have got to have some big guys to gather in rebounds for you and play defense, particularly if the perimeter shooting has a bad game. Florida won this year largely because of the dominating inside presence of Noah and Horford (and Richards off the bench). Even though Florida had a couple of games in the tournament where perimeter shooting worked, that was because of the inside-outside game opened up by physically taking control of the rebounding part of the game and setting great screens under the basket.

When UT's perimeter shooting was on, UT usually won. But as time wore on I personally felt that the lack of size became a glaring deficiency. I did see someone post on here that there's a guy 6'6" and one a couple inches taller for next year. That's good, but would seriously like to see UT get some guys at least 6'10" in order to make a legitimate run in the coming years at a Final Four.

I am by no means saying it cannot be done with a smaller squad. Villanova came close this year. But I have watched Donovan at Florida for the last 5 years trying to get somewhere with one of these four guard or three guard and two small forward type of offenses and it doesn't work down the road because, eventually, you are going to have that bad shooting game and if you can't get second and third attempts, you are done.

We still have Wingate at 6'10 and Harris at 6'11, plus Crews can jump out of the gym.

But size does not always translate into having a post presence. If a 6'9" guy can get it done in UT's system then that's what we need. I think Pearl's style of play does not require that go-to guy down low. It needs a defender and a big guy who can run the floor. Very rarely did UT get caught in a half-court game. It was the true lack of depth that bit us.
