I think Pearl's style of play does not require that go-to guy down low. It needs a defender and a big guy who can run the floor.

That's the key with Pearl's system. A slow 7 foot post player won't work.

But size does not always translate into having a post presence. If a 6'9" guy can get it done in UT's system then that's what we need. I think Pearl's style of play does not require that go-to guy down low. It needs a defender and a big guy who can run the floor. Very rarely did UT get caught in a half-court game. It was the true lack of depth that bit us.

Maybe so on the depth. But I still say you do need that strong posting presence. Whether the guy is 6'8" and can leap, or is 6'"11 and just grabs everything in sight, I agree. And good point about a big man that can run. Pearl likes to go up and down the floor. Even if you have some big men if they can't run or you don't have depth to give the starting big guys a breather here and there, then you will end up with problems, as you point out.

Thanks.

I say you are too short. But just an opinion.

I'm 6'4, how tall are you??

5'11" but 6'1" in pumps, lol.

Hey, what happened to the kids with the drug charges? Anything yet or just still getting investigated?

The Gators already "exonerated" our case of the players who possessed an AK-47, another assault rifle of some sort, and several handguns. Kids! What are you going to do with 'em?

I haven't heard much about it, but I'm sure that we'll actually punish our players if need be.

did anyone notice that when talking about the recruits going to TN and their respective rankings supplied by recruiting services, it was thrown in "if you believe those sort of things"?

i wonder if the same would have been printed if they went to UK or UF?????

i'm not big on recruiting rankings, but i just thought that was odd....

good read.
He's from Kentucky so he might have been pointing to the fact that UK has recruited quite a few hsaa that did not pan out as expected on the college level just an observation.

 boy what a differences a year makes. About this time last year, I was wandering if Tennessee has made the right choice in hiring
Coach Pearl. Smith was signed and said that he would no longer be going to UT. Jamont Gordon chose MSU. We would sign Ryan Childress, who? I thought, can he coach or recruit that his level? What a difference a year makes. I now believe that this my be the best UT hire ever! Go Big Orange Basketball and Go Coach Pearl.

i think if we had Noah, we'd be unstopable. he'd flourish big time, not that he hasn't at UF, in a system like Pearl's. Size does matter, but we'll get bigger next year.....should be interesting.
