Vols Spring Practice #13

So Thornton was top 50 player when came out of HS. And Oregon did not want him to transfer.
He's a big play guy. But in all honesty don't see a ton of difference between himself and Chaz Nimrod from an athletic standpoint.

Nimrod is 6'3 but is shifty. Just like Leacock. Both of those guys are prototype WRs imo

IIRC, Nimrod laser timed a 4.50 in the 40 in front of the coaches during a private workout when they were recruiting him. He is a bigger body that can move it.

Glad to hear Addison Nichols looking like he'll be one of the best 5. He's really filled out physically.
LT Campbell 6'7 330 (Jr)
LG Nichols 6'5 320 (rsFr)
C Mays 6'3 300 (sr)
RG Spraggins 6'3 320 (Sr)
RT Mincey 6'6 320 (rsJr)
That's some big boys. And the recruiting is there behind them. Vols looking good up front.

Thornton is 6'5 but can move in and out of breaks like a 5'10 slot. He's also in the mix with Squirrel for being our greatest receiver. Dude is a freak and has the potential to be the best we've had in this offense of he puts it all together.

Yep. I think Nichols jumping ahead of Karic is a good thing. I expected Karic to win that job, but Nichols has obviously developed. That means we have more than one good option there.
A great situation to have just more depth

That size mixed with our pace of play and multiple fresh running backs we can throw at the defense, is going to be a beautiful thing for wearing opponents down

I agree. And I repeat, among our opponents, we have a rep as a pass crazy team. Not without good reason. 2023 will see the Vols still hefting the oblong oink ball, but it will be our running game that does both the damage and the heavy lifting. The enemy will enter games so leery of the long arm of the law Javelin Joe. They will back off from the LOS, and get gashed time and again by our RBs. Then, when they do start creeping up, the FGM-148 Javelin is released. A case of pick your poison, be bombed into oblivion, or run over flattened. Perhaps the orange storm we have long awaited will thunder and roll this coming season. KRAK-KRAK-KRAKKKKA-DOOOOOOM. The thunder will roll, and the lightning will be flashing. Right in the middle of it, we'll go dashing. Just call us the GO VOLS! Kraka-Dooom! Goofy, I know, but I don't apologize for being excited about our Vols.

Nichols looks much stronger and more explosive in the clips compared to last season. I think you're right that we mostly expected him to have to wait until Cooper is gone, but it seems like he's developed into one of the 5 best. Gotta get him on the field.
