HALFTIME
15 plays, 67 yards, 8:44, FG, 27-6 UGA (possession ended at 1:09 3rd)
IT STARTED RAINING DURING THE ABOVE DRIVE, AFTER THAT UGA THREW 1 PASS THE REST OF THE GAME, then went:
1 play, 3 yards, FUMBLE, 0:10 (following our fumble on the previous possession)
3 PLAYS, -8 yards, PUNT, 2:51
3 plays, -2 yards, PUNT, 0:28 (we took 2 of our 3 timeouts)
4 plays, 12 yards, END OF GAME, 2:42
The fact is that they went super conservative after it got messy and we fumbled it back and forth at the end of the 3rd quarter, it's not like we figured anything out about how to stop their offense. Credit for stopping the straight ahead run where credit is due but they aren't going to be one dimensional like that in a different situation, and we aren't going to know what they are going to do in a different situation. At that point, Smart figured we couldn't score 21 points in the time left at that point (basically 1 quarter left to go) unless he gave us something cheap and so they didn't, they just ran it into the line to burn clock and make us burn timeouts except for one play where they tried to pick up a third down and the ball went right through the receivers hands. I have little faith we could stop them in a situation where they are leaving their playbook open, as they likely would have had it not started monsooning.
21 point lead, 16 minutes to play, pouring rain, with that defense, for once Fulmer ball still made sense.Yep he Played it like Fulmer in his 90’s years safe plays and hoping for 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Then punt if stopped and play old time SEC D. UGA had a smart 7 year QB that plays safe good decisions add that with you got the best players money can buy and it’s a win ever time UGA would have been the best team ever if Bryce Young was their QB and they had their usual Uber stud RBs. We are a long way off talent wise. They can afford to play boring ball with less likelihood of an upset.
You would only throw in the rain if you were behind.
No one is closing the gap with Georgia. Alabama managed to be in 5 close games this year and lost 2. Saban will address. We need a top 5 class in 2024. Our direct competition just finished 1 and 2, again. To begin closing the gap on them will take a great recruiting effort by CJH.
Saban responded with the number one class. I'd say he's addressed it. It all starts up front. That's for sure. And Tennessee has certainly been lacking compared to the top of the league. We are basically going to have to look like the other teams that have won this league if we ever expect to win in it. And that's usually been high level talent across the board. At all of the spots. No one is closing the gap with Georgia. Alabama managed to be in 5 close games this year and lost 2. Saban will address.
Look at the DL for your answers. How many high draft picks do these 2 Schools produce? We had butler drafted in day 3 and young will get slotted there this year. Even Garner can’t grab 5* DT like a Carter on a consistent basis.
The same as ALL of the South Carolina lamentation threads, except with more meaning. The South Carolina game was a fluke, but UGA was a physical beatdown that shouldn't be glossed over.
Garner will get some. He’s got too good a reputation to ignore. But game wrecking DT and QB are the fastest positions off the recruiting board. Just as they are in the NFL draft.Saban responded with the number one class. I'd say he's addressed it. It all starts up front. That's for sure. Georgia had scored 21 early in the second quarter and only managed a field goal for nearly three whole quarters.
Which is the point. They won that game on defense. Period. Our offense will have to be bigger and tougher or we won't ever score enough to win a game against Georgia.
Our defense gave up a few plays but we did not get torched. We stopped their running game well enough to not give up any second half rushing touchdownz. 195 yards and zero TD's for Hooker. By far the worst performance by a UT qb this year. Missed Hyatt, Fant & McCoy for long touchdowns, among other miscues. We lost because of our offensive performance.
And the usual suspects post about how it really “wasn’t as close because of rain” UGA was a better more talented team and we lost by 2 scores in Athens. We will get thereThis thread exists for the resident uga bootlickers to heap more praise on them and scorn on the Vols. Whatever makes you happy, I guess.
I will just never understand the love some Vol fans have for that trash.
You're more worried about South Carolina? Instead of Georgia? Dear Lord. You must have given up hope of being that good and are now just waiting on the 12 team playoff to avoid having to actually win the SEC...♂I'm more worried about getting beatdown by South Carolina. Call it a fluke if you want, and you may be right but there was no excuse for the embarrassment. Losing to UGA wasn't an embarrassment. Why bring it up like it was something to watch on SEC Network but complain it wasn't worth watching. Just odd.
With a pregame speech like this from that game, easy to see why we came out on fire.
