Vols Win SEC In 2006

Contend for the SEC east title in 06? I say no. It will be between UGA and UF. Us and SoCar will be on the outside looking in.

We may beat UF, but not UGA. The USC game is a toss up. I think we'll lose to LSU and 'bama also. That's too many losses to contend for the East title.

Everyone said we wouldn't beat UGA in 2004 either.

It can very easily happen.

As Chris Berman says, that's why they play the games.

It could happen, though I don't think it would easily happen.

The program is seriously broken.  We are not going to contend for anything for awhile.  Right now I really think next year will be worse than this year.  We are losing 27 senoirs.  We are not going to win the east playing a bunch of inexperienced sophmores and redshirt frosh.  Take off the orange tinted glasses and see things as the REALLY are.  UT sucks! They are not a little sucky.  They are a full-on sucktacular suckfest of suckiness.  It will probably take 5-10 years and a couple of head coach changes to fix this.

Realistically, what I see happening is somewhere in between, with our expectations getting lower and lower with 7-4 and 8-3 records with recruiting and national interest in our program waning as happened in RC Slocum's last years at Texas A&M until the power brokers decide to to can CPF.

People, we are only an attitude/disclipline shift and new blood in the coaching staff away from having a championship contender again. Remember, we have talent that is generally regarded as top 10 in the nation. Even as bad as this season was, we were never blown out.

There have been plenty of teams that rebounded from a miserable season to have a great one... Auburn mentioned previously, Notre Dame this year.

Any of you younguns remember 1989? We finished 5-6 in 1988 (sound familar?), then went on to go 11-1 in 1989. There is wayyy too much pride and resources in this program to suffer through another '05 type year any time soon.

If the talent wasn't there, it would be one thing. We have the talent, we just haven't developed it. One long off season with capable assistants and a major change in the attitude and discipline demanded by the coaching staff - and we could be preparing for the SEC Championship game at this point next year.

While some of you may prefer to wallow in misery, I prefer to spend my off season being optimistic and expecting the appropriate changes to be made by Phil.

We do lose some key players, but it isn't as bad as one might think if you break it down.

Let's try to be positive here. The main thing needed is some serious" Get in the heads of these players" and let them know what is expected. There are Key areas where we have lots of experence. I see 13 players on Offence and 13 on D which had lots of playing time this year. We will be thin for now at LB but the front 4 have some guys who played a lot/ McBride, McDanial should be solid at DT. Mayo had a lot of snaps at LB and we know we can find others who can step in there. DB should be a strong point if we can get them to be more agressive in press coverage.

On Offence, even with Ainge, we return the back field and wideouts. If Sears and Smith stay we should have a solid "O" line with Ligon, Sears, Foster with lots of experence.

lets just hope the coaches can get them in the mind set of playing to the top of their game, and that the players never want this kind of season ever again.

IMO we could be a very good team next year. I'm not looking through rose colored glasses, but I do believe this and can't wait for it all to get started.
GO VOLS

I dont think he was talking about our record. It might take 5 or so years to correct the discipline problems. U gotta understand this team is full of thugs and primadonnas, once we weed them out then things might get better, but it has to start with the coaches first.

I don't usually post here, I just like to read what yall have to say about your program. However, in this case, I have to make an exception. For a couple of years now, Bama fans have called your players thugs and primadonnas. But Vol fans dismissed these comments, even though players were constantly getting into legal trouble. UT was winning so Vol fans saw no problem with the players, they were just misunderstood. Now, UT is a bad football team that isn't going to a bowl. Now, the players are thugs and you can't wait to get them off of your team, because they're ruining the program and the morale of the team. Funny how things change. When you're winning, you let your players being thugs slide. When you start to lose...a lot...then it's time to clean up the program. I love it. :birgits_giggle:

The Tennessee football program has had incidents with players off the field for decades and will continue in the future. Some fans just need to get over it. Its the nature of having a team full of 18-22 year olds. Every program has problem players.... you just deal with them and move on. I notice a Vanderbilt website that listed Vols players that got into trouble.... the same week I saw the website, some Vandy players were arrested..... so problems exist, even at Vandy.

The "orange tinted glasses" comment is the most overused comment on this message board. All the naysayers should argue their points rather than just saying to anyone who opposes them that they have orange tinted glasses on. If they argue their point correctly, there is no need in such derogatory comments.

And yes, I believe the Vols will contend for the SEC Championship next season.

Thanks Liper. You always seem to argue your points without resorting to any name calling, etc. I appreciate that about you.

Plus your new Burt Reynold avatar is much more serious.

highly unlikely we contend for sec east next year. 7-4 overall sounds about right. i can't say there is noway we win the east because we won last year and i'm still alittle puzzled how that happened. cutcliffe needs his best coaching job on offense just to get these guys respectable. if QB situation doesn't improve we may bomb again next year which will probably put phil out. it will be interesting to watch.
