Wait for it... USA Places Sanctions On Yet Another Country (Venezuela)

From the article:

The sanctions restrict trading of Venezuelan bonds sold by the government in the American financial markets to raise money. The effect could increase the likelihood of a Venezuelan default on its debts at the end of the year.

The administration stopped short of prohibiting imports of Venezuelan crude oil to American refineries, which would almost certainly be a crippling step. American refiners have lobbied hard against sanctions against oil imports, arguing that they would raise fuel prices, slash profit margins and potentially cost oil company jobs along the Gulf Coast.

Yeah, not seeing this really is a big deal.

Maybe the Russians can step in and take care of things the way they did in Syria against ISIS.

Well, they have done an outstanding job of cleaning up and gradually pushing ISIS out of Syria. There are stories out there where Russia has reached out to Venezuela over the past few months, so that looks like it has a possibility of happening as things unravel.

What's the alternative?

I don't agree with military action.
But let's give them some food.

The alternative is to let Venezuelans decide they've had enough or continue to go down the same path. We could send food but I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that the food will end up being exported and the money will go into Maduro's pocket.

Not exactly easy to overthrow a government. And I am 100% against any sort of US military action. Further squeezing by us could cause the military to turn against Maduro as he becomes more unpopular.

Well, might as well invade a nice part of the world closer to home this time. The Middle East sucks and at least a bucket of KFC would get you a wild night with some of the local chicas.

Sanctions Are a Bitch – U.S. Refiners Importing Russian Oil Like Mad To Replace Venezuelan Imports

Don’t think for a second that this is some kind of Trumpian quid pro quo or anything. That he promised Putin a few ducats to look the other way in Venezuela. I know stupid libs of the Young Turk variety will think this. So will the Q-tards in the MAGA crowd.

But, no. This is simply normal market action that a bunch of clueless morons in D.C. can’t control. Refiners need feedstock to refine or they go out of business.

So, it’s no surprise to me to see it being a direct substitute for Venezuelan crude while the U.S. embargoes it. If the Russians gain the market share lost by Venezuela while, at the same time, providing the financial infrastructure — payment clearing, insurance, etc. — for Venezuela to sell their oil to other markets, like India, what, in the end is the net effect of all this sanctioning and war-mongering?

Nothing, of course. But you can’t tell that to insane authoritarians like John Bolton. These are men who can only think in terms of primary effects and overly-discount the market’s ability to overcome obstacles. And so, they get frustrated by secondary effects, like the simple substitution of Russian oil for Venezuelan oil by domestic refiners.

Socialism sucks. Dumb people who fall for it reep the misery it brings. Best thing that can happen to Venezuela is a total collapse so they can start fresh....hopefully as a constitutional republic so they can prosper.
