DRUDGE REPORT: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY 2009®

WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY
Tue Apr 14 2009 08:44:54 ET

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

If it lowers my taxes and I don't have to fight against my brothers in a civil war, count me in.

Good for Texas but I wouldn't want to move there unless I wanted to worry about Hispanic gangs or getting kidnapped.

Ehh, it is not so bad. Don't forget about the roving bands of Hispanic gangs in Nashville.

This aint the wild west down here. If you want to move to Laredo, El Paso, or Brownsville that's one thing, but dont paint a picture that we are all riding horses to work and have to board up our windows at night for fear of Santa Anna returning.

:eek:lol:

Actually I watched Gangland last night on the History Channel and they were talking about the Hispanic gangs in Texas.

I wanted to test the waters and see how quickly you Texans, with your boots with spurs and bucket hats, would respond.

I guess you can say, we "circled the wagons".

I've never ran into them. I imagine if they exist, then they're located around nolensville road on the antioch side. Just like anywhere else, there are places in a city you can put yourself and have a better than average chance of something bad happening to you. Nashville is a pretty nice city, period.

Murfreesboro Rd between Thompson Lane and I-40, as well as Nolensville Rd between the fairgrounds and Bell Rd and everywhere in between have become so run down it isn't funny. Hell all of Antioch, Woodbine and the airport is over run at this point. The bad thing is it is the immigrants kids that are the problem, for the most part their parents go to work everyday and at least produce something for society. it is the second generation that is going to really cost us in the long run, both in crime and being a general drain on our city.

EDIT: For evidence of their existence just ride around these areas and watch for all the Latin Kings and BP (Brown Pride) graffiti.

Side Note: When I was younger and Brown Pride first started showing up in Nashville you would see BP in brown spray paint around the south side of the city. We used to go around and turn BP into Butt Punks by adding a few letters. They didn't seem to appreciate it as much as we did!

I like Nashville. I lived there for a couple of years and have some friends and family there.

I was referring to an inside joke of sorts when Blaker (or whatever his handle de jour was) made some wild assertion about hispanic gangs in Nashville.

He was skewered. I've been around this place too long...

A little volnation history: this is where it started. Like many other things here, it kind of gained momentum.

While I seriously doubt there are roving gangs of the magnitude he inferred there are pockets in Nashville where they are a real problem, mostly just young punks, vandalism, fights and robbery.

I got caught watching Gangland* (History Channel) awhile back. I'm pretty sure it was the 18th Street Gang episode and Nashville was specifically mentioned in the "places you wouldn't think" category of where you could find membership.

*If you aren't good about keeping up with your routine gun maintenence make a point of watching this show. It never fails to make me take out my Glock and/or AR and make sure everything is ready to go. The show just gives me the willies. There are...beings...walking around out there that I don't think are human anymore by any real standard I'd care to apply. They more or less look like us but it pretty much ends there.

I agree. If I didn't want a family I would join the organized crime division and go to work.

Sadly at one time I was a part of the problem. We were labeled a gang by the local media after a large group from our part of the town came together, mostly because of a long standing gang that hung in an area adjacent to Antioch. After a few people were jumped or shot at we all kind of came together. Before long there were fights and a couple of shootings between the two. This was when Nashville first got the wake up call that gangs were becoming a problem (even though as a teenager I could have named at least four major gangs in South Nashville with nation wide membership).

Many of us who were the original band of the group that came together saw the writing on the wall. We were harassed by the police (rightfully so) and things were starting to escalate. The final blow for me was when one of the younger brothers of a guy who was a member stole a car led police on a high speed chase, flipped the car and almost killed himself. I saw then that this kid who looked up to us had been drawn in, I couldn't help but feel the guilt for that, it was then that I decided to leave and more than a few of the others did as well over the next few months. Of those that didn't there are only a couple of them who aren't dead or in jail, most being in prison.

I know first hand that gangs are a problem in Nashville. I can only imagine what it is like now.

If it were not for my family and my record prohibiting me, I would like to do so as well.
