I thought Muslims preferred cutting heads off.

Did this suddenly change?

Yeah, like I'm the one who has attempted to apply a religious standard to those seeking office.

Why would this bother me at all? She has to make her case and be elected. I would fully expect her religious convictions to inform her politics. So long as she is open about that, I could even vote for her if we agreed on the issues.

Not all Muslims are radical. My argument is with those of you who minimize Islamists and the threat they pose.

Way, way, way too logical.

So because she's Muslim you want her to discuss her religious views and how they affect her politics, and you are okay with it only if she does so? If she were Christian you would not impose the same requirement....

So nobody appears to give a damn she is Muslim and because of this you now have to go to option two.

Take a calm, rational remark out of context.

Nice.

If she were Christian she would probably volunteer those views.

What am I missing?

Aren't you saying that a Muslim candidate can only get your vote if they are open about how their faith might influence their decision-making?

I seem to remember the fact that George W. Bush wore his faith on his sleeve bothered you leftists a lot.

Dangit, there's racism in that there post somewhere. I can smell it. I just need to ask him to define his post a couple times until I can pull it out.

Trying to rationalize with liberals is always amusing. However this one is failing miserably!

You said that IF she is open about her faith and how that informs her politics, you could vote for her.

That implies to me that if a Muslim candidate ran and said they'd not discuss their faith then you would not vote for them.

Now tell the truth: If in your community a woman was running for school board and said I'm Muslim, but I am not going to discuss that, wouldn't you automatically disqualify her in your own mind?

I'll respond but it was SJ who said that.

Me personally? I want to know the issues. The issues tell about the persons faith. Just because someone confesses to be a christian doesn't mean they are or are even qualified. I would ask the view on Sharia law to anyone who is running. I asked it to my local congressman before I financial gave a penny to the campaign. I would ask specific issue questions. I would ask this of anyone, black, white, christian, muslim, etc.

"Claiming"?

That's not what I meant and doesn't seem to be what he contemplated, either.

If a candidate for local office is a Muslim, but won't discuss it, is that a problem for anyone? I suspect it would be for a lot of people, whether they'd say so or not.

Wouldn't she have to make that public for anyone to know that?

Im Baptist. You wouldn't know unless I told you.

The point was, if shes open about being a follower of islam why not be open to answering questions about it?

Oh, in a lot of places I think people would either assume it from a name or the opposing candidate would find out and point that out. It's not an easy thing to hide, really.
