UAB President Carol Garrison decided that after a 3-9 season this year and only 2 winning seasons in 12 years at UAB, that it was time to let Watson Brown go.

As a member of the Alabama Board of Trustees (of which UAB is a member institution), Paul Bryant Jr. learned of this and immediately drove to Birmingham to meet with her. Bryant pressed President Garrison to give Watson "at least 2 more years." A heated argument ensued with her basically standing her ground.

UAB then decided Watson Brown might move back to the AD spot and that OC Pat Sullivan would be promoted to head coach. President Garrison met with Pat Sullivan on Wednesday night, shook hands, and said "Congratulations... you're the next coach at UAB." The meeting was adjourned until the next day when contract details would be ironed out.

The next day, after Watson Brown had learned of this, he immediately went to Bryant Jr. (one of Watson's biggest supporters over the last number of years). Bryant Jr. came quickly to President Garrison and blocked any contract from being signed. Sullivan, who was also being pursued by Samford, got fed up and immediately contacted Samford to accept their offer.

Now you tell me why the son of the great Alabama legend is desperate to keep the 2nd-losingest coach in NCAA history at UAB. You tell me why he's going to our president and making demands and then trying to cover things up.

This is all confirmed and was on the radio all over Birmingham, but of course the Bammer media outlets and Board of Trustees is in damage control. It's been long suspected that the Board of Trustees (especially Bryant Jr.) has meddled in UAB's business on a number of occasions. Today confirmed this.

I'll try to get some audio to let you guys hear.

Are we to assume they want to lure Mack Brown there? By keeping his brother near by.

No... Alabama is using gestapo-like tactics to hold UAB down. You can hear it in Herb Winches voice that he's very careful in what he says because he's fearful himself of retaliation.

Here's the audio from WJOX 690 in Birmingham:

I was just joking, only reason I said that was because on the Bama boards they were seriously talking about Brown as an option.:lolabove:

"Hold UAB Down"?

From what? Winning 8 games?

Sorry man. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I just don't understand what UAT would have to be scared about from UAB.

Maybe they feel like they were gaining ground on us since they won half as many games as we did.

They are also hatching a scheme to steal the Trojan helmet from the Troy mascot, Those Bammers  .

Then tell me... why is Bryant Jr. spending his time making sure UAB keeps the 2nd losingest coach in NCAA history rather than going out looking for a coach for UAT?

Birmingham is their recruiting grounds... they can't afford to lose that to UAB. UAB also had a large donor willing to pony up the money for Rick Neuheisel... Bryant Jr. rejected this too.

What Bryant Jr. is doing is borderline illegal.

Maybe he is a friend of Watson's and he doesn't want a friend to lose a job.

Maybe he sees what it is like to give up on a coach too soon, or to run someone out of town that could possibly help somewhere else, like at AD, and he is trying to make sure UAB doesn't make the same mistakes.

I don't have any clue. I have nothing to do with the Carnivale that is Alabama Football. I just don't think there is a major effort to keep UAB "down".

It would be like saying that Mike Hamilton wants to make sure that Middle Tennessee St hires the worst coach possible so that they couldn't take players or headlines away from UT. They aren't even in the same league and as much as you hate to hear it, MTSU and UAB don't deserve to be on the same page in the sports section as Tennessee and Alabama.

You didn't hear Hamilton is very upset that the Tennessee high school title games are held in Murfreesboro, since that gives the Raiders a great opportunity to recruit from those teams. j/k.:)

To give up a coach too soon??? We've had Watson 12 years and he's had TWO winning seasons in that time. 12 years for that kind of failure is not too soon... it's too late. No one ever thinks Alabama would be thinking to hold UAB down, but do you see nothing suspicious in all this?

Nothing at all odd about Bryant Jr. spending so much time and effort meddling in UAB's affairs... especially when we're about to make a big move that does NOT involve Watson. Find it funny that the people MOST involved in the program and around Watson Brown have basically no respect for the man? Is it a coincidence that Bryant Jr. and Watson are friends? Watson scratches Bryant's back and Bryant scratches Watson's back. This is no conspiracy "theory" anymore... this proves that there is involvement from Bama's bigger $ folks trying to run the show at OUR university.
