Want some dirt on Bama?

To give up a coach too soon??? We've had Watson 12 years and he's had TWO winning seasons in that time. 12 years for that kind of failure is not too soon... it's too late. No one ever thinks Alabama would be thinking to hold UAB down, but do you see nothing suspicious in all this?

Nothing at all odd about Bryant Jr. spending so much time and effort meddling in UAB's affairs... especially when we're about to make a big move that does NOT involve Watson. Find it funny that the people MOST involved in the program and around Watson Brown have basically no respect for the man? Is it a coincidence that Bryant Jr. and Watson are friends? Watson scratches Bryant's back and Bryant scratches Watson's back. This is no conspiracy "theory" anymore... this proves that there is involvement from Bama's bigger $ folks trying to run the show at OUR university.

Boy, and I thought Tubberville and Meyer whined alot.

If no one at UAB "respects" Watson Brown, you all deserve the mess you are in. There is no reason not to respect someone like Watson Brown. Idiots that get tied up in wins and losses to the degree that they quit respecting good men.....well, we all know what kind of "fans" those people end up being.

Watson and Sullivan NEVER spoke... Sullivan was OC as figure-head only. Watson called every offensive play. Watson said if he were moved over to AD, he would NOT work with Sullivan. Watson has driven off most of UAB's long-time donors. No one respects Watson because he proceeds to have 3-9 years and say that he's done a good job. Now if we played in the SEC and were 3-9, that's one thing. But Watson doesn't win a THIRD of the games we're predicted to win. Watson is about 50 losses shy of becoming the NCAA's all-time losingest coach. The players absolutely despise Watson and want him gone. Watson commands no respect. Instead of wanting to win games, he just wants to "play them close." He is a loser and always has been.

Hmm... now why would the Board of Trustees and Bryant Jr. put a vote of confidence in THAT... but not in Shula?

Well, Good Luck. I certainly hope UAB ends up with a better coach than UAT.

I think it's clear that a 3rd party needs to be called in. I nominate Jerry Springer.

All kidding aside . . . I feel sorry for you guys.

I'm gonna back up Blazer85 to some extent -

The BOT that controls UA, UAB and UAH is clearly controlled by UA alum and Bryant, Jr. has considerable power.

There is bad blood between UA and UAB from both sides and in particular in athletics. Gene Bartow evidently made some comments about UA and those things have not been forgotten.

The resource allocation mentality between the 2 schools from an athletic standpoint is night and day. No way does UAB merit the kind of resources that UA does but the BOT has been particularly tight with UAB including serious consideration about shutting down the football program all together. In the current job search for UA, it appears that money is no object and this transition from Shula to whoever could easily hit the $10 million mark.

I don't know the details about the Brown/Sullivan/Bryant/Garrison deal but I do know that the BOT has shown no interest in helping UAB develop its athletics - particularly its football.

Louisville (where president Garrison is from), Florida Atlantic, South Florida, etc. are all examples of mid-major teams where the respective BOT's have strategically funded program development. UAB's funding has always been half-a$$ed and I don't think it's a coincidence that the BOT is UA focused. UAB has been D1 since the late 90's. Bama has been down since then. There is a clear connection in the BOT's mindset.

A little strong on both ends of the argument. WB definitely bit off more than he could chew. I don't care how good of a man he is, he still made a major mistake trying to be AD and head football coach. Clearly a saavy AD would know a HFC needs total focus, especially given the limited resources at UAB and the potential to move the team up. In the end, WB has been stubborn. I respect the man but it is a clear conflict of interest to be both AD and HFC. If he was doing his job as AD, he would have fired himself as coach.

Its not really Alabama dirt if it doesnt involve a stripper, paying for players, firing a head coach or probation. They are on a whole different level.

Thank God Brown has been there the last 12 years, we have been such a powerhouse in that time.
