War in Ukraine

Quite a few B-52 flights I've notice this week around Ukraine. Unless they decided to turn on their transponders recently.

The common joke is that Ukrainians put Kontakt-1 ERA on every tank. I bet we'll see American Abrams, British Challengers, and German Leopards with them bolted on.

Not your run of the mill T-55 but I still think I’d want to be in one of the Leo 1’s over this thing.

T-55S - The prototype for the M-55S.[42]
  • M-55S - T-55 modernization developed by the STO RAVNE company and engineers of the Israeli company Elbit. Slovenia modernized 30 T-55 tanks in the inventory of its armed forces. The last T-55 was modernized to the M-55S standard in May 1999. The original 100 mm tank gun was replaced by the NATO-standard 105 mm one with a thermal sleeve. The armour protection of the tank was improved considerably by attaching Rafael ERA blocks to the hull and the turret. A digital ballistic computer was installed in order to improve the fire control system (FCS). The gunner has the Fotona SGS-55 two-axis stabilized day-and-night sight with an integral laser rangefinder. In addition to the integral optic sight the commander has the Fotona COMTOS-55 sight with an independent line-of-sight stabilization, which allows him to acquire targets and lay the gun independently if required. The driver has the Fotona CODRIS combined day/night observation periscope. The LIRD-1A laser illumination warning receiver was mated with front-mounted IS-6 smoke grenade launchers (of which there are six in two clusters, one per side of the turret) and can be automatically activated in an emergency. Modernization of the V-12 diesel engine resulted in an increase in power from 520 hp to 600 hp. The running gear has rubber side skirts and the tank was outfitted with new rubber and metal tracks. Improvements were also made to the communications aids.[42] In October 2022, Slovenia gave 28 M-55S to Ukraine; Germany provides 40 transport vehicles to Slovenia, as Prime Minister Robert Golob and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arranged some weeks ago. The vehicles will also serve for protection and rescue.[189]

Gives new meaning to playing Russian roulette.

As I have said before, Russia never learns. They try the same old tactics over and over again. This tactic comes from World War I. They did the same in World War II, and are doing it now again. They are just inefficient at fighting wars and always will be.

Purin nightmare coming to fruition...

Five regions want to break away from Russia, referendum shows
05.03.2023, 10:58

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s delusional dreams of resurrecting the Soviet Union could actually be going quite the opposite direction with the majority of inhabitants of the Federation’s five regions supporting the idea of breaking away and proclaiming independence, as shown by a referendum cited by TVP.INFO news website.

The regions demonstrating secessionist tendencies are Ingria, Ural, Syberia, Kuban, and the Kaliningrad oblasts. The data proving such tendencies were collected via the “National Online Referendum on the Self-Governance of the Russian Federation’s Republics” carried out between February 16 and 28. It was organised by activists living in the concerned territories.

According to the survey, 72.1 percent of respondees in the Kaliningrad oblast want to break away from the Russian Federation. In Ingria, 66.2 percent of respondees wanted their oblast to gain independence. In Ural, the percentage amounted to 68.2 percent, in Syberia to 63.9 percent, and in the Kuban oblast to 55.7 percent.

As many as 5.6 mln people participated in the survey, according to its organizers quoted by TVP.INFO.

Losing both Kaliningrad and Sevastopol to this fiasco would be such karma for the bald dwarf.

Russia now losing ground in Northern Bakhmut. What a clusterfark.

Also of interest and a bit under the radar, UAF currently has 8 battalions (24,000) training for the spring offensive. Russia building defensive positions waaaay South of the current lines on Zaporizhzhia and even Crimea.

Seems Putin's generals know they'll be going backwards soon.
