War in Ukraine

All NATO's fault of course..

This has all ended up being a total repudiation of the Angela Merkel wing of NATO (wasn't she originally from East Germany) that wanted to civilize Russia through economic interaction and the avoidance of military confrontation. This whole thing brought back memories of the Prague Spring for a new generation of Europeans and they don't like it.

NATO is going to come out of this stronger militarily (both in spending and in the admission of new members) and more suspicious at a very important moment. China had been working hard to economically weaken the US-Europe relationship. That's in deep freeze now, especially after China's commitment to Russia.

It's really funny regarding what this should mean to Ukraine between the EU commitment to rebuild and the potential postwar economic renaissance. Its admission into the EU would give Europe and the US an extremely important door to the Central Asian Republics. If Russia implodes China is going to make a move on the CIR for their resources. We need to be part of that game.

NATO membership may be a ways off, but remember, if Ukraine prevails they will have a battle tested, powerful military flush with western equipment and the knowledge that they owe it all to NATO.

Now we're going to have to refocus on the Pacific Rim.

So do we think Putin was onboard that Russian presidential aircraft to St. Petersburg or do we really think he’s still in Moscow?

Imagine the movie Alfred Hitchcock could make out of this.

Or maybe Tarantino, if he could figure out a way to include a reference to Tennessee as he almost always does.
