I think there are plenty of teams out there willing to overlook his issues in the NFL and would hire him in a heartbeat. I mean, if Liberty can overlook Freeze buying hookers for his recruits, how much would a Texas or a UCLA care about Urban berating staff?

I'll disagree with @LouderVol over the G5 school thing. I think he's back in the P5 system next year, 2023 at the latest.
They will be able to overlook them...eventually. The fact that he stunk in the NFL and grinded on a lady other than his wife is irrelevant...however the staff issues he had and kicking a player are not. The head of Liberty at the time (Falwell Jr.) was a philanderer himself so it was probably really easy for him to overlook Hugh's issues.

He had to lay low for a little bit after he left Ohio St; he'll probably have to do the same again.

I dont see it happening that soon. Unless it's some school with nothing to lose. I dont see a blue blood, or just outside blue, taking him that soon.

If he came in focused and started winning which he’s already proven to do no one would make a peep.

There's enough of them out there that are willing to overlook anything to get back on top.

As posted in another thread, a place like Nebraska or Maryland with the tradition (Nebraska) or money (Maryland) wouldn't hesitate for a minute to snag him up if they thought it would bring them into contention quicker.

I still don't think he's done much to tarnish his reputation as a college coach.

Burt Reynolds is dead? 🧐

Seriously though, my personal theory is FSU was known as the liberal arts state school, and relative to UF they got a late start on establishing a medical school, law school and engineering school.

As a result their boosters’ pockets aren’t as deep relative to other major CFB programs.

I reserve the right to be 100% wrong.

You are right.

Add in though that the school was a women's college until sometime in the 40s. They did not become a football power until the 80s. They do not have the legacy of facilities, etc that has been built up over the last 100 years.

Here, I kind of mesh with LW's analysis.

I’m not so sure those in home conversations would be warm and welcoming at this point.

Eh, kids will go where they can win, get paid, and get groomed for the NFL. Whoever signs Meyer as HC will be offering all of those things.

Leonard Hamilton has transformed Florida State into a basketball school since Fisher left for Texas A%M.

And at this point in his career I don't see him working for anything less than a blue blood/near blue blood. He isn't going to coach Bowling Green again.

The relative lack of funds FSU has relative to the standing of their program is astonishing. Maybe @Lawrence Wright knows more but I don't think they could afford to pay any coach top tier money + give that coach needed resources even if said coach was winning multiple national titles for them. We already know they couldn't/wouldn't do that for Jimbo.

Jimbo seems like a d*ck but the more I read about how things went down for him at FSU I find myself kind of taking his side on that one.

They just added another yr to Norvell’s contract

I think a bunch of schools would still love to have him. He's only embarrassed himself in the NFL. He's done nothing that should affect how he's viewed in college football.

Hiding a serial wife beater? I think Meyer is radioactive for college.

Semi lap dances with females not his wife are not really NCAA approved.

I think the reports of him berating staff and then kicking his kicker (WTF?) mean he won't be hired again for a while, if ever.

If he was fired in Jax purely for his on-field performance (which was really bad), he probably would have been able to jump back into a college job almost immediately.
Depends on what else comes out over next year. If it stays status quo, a desperate P5, like FSU, Louisville, or Auburn, would definitely hire him. Numerous G5s as well. Look at Bobby Petrino.

They screwed the pooch big time with the Willie Taggart decision. Paid Oregon the remaining buyout that was originally owed to USF whenever he left for Oregon, paid Oregon a separate buyout to come to FSU, and paid another buyout to fire him after two seasons. Altogether, they paid (still paying) three separate buyouts totaling over $20M for a coach that gave them a 9-12 record. That total dropped some due to him taking the FAU job but they must be using a Magic 8-ball to make their financial decisions.

Well of course they’re melting down. Could you imagine the reaction on this board if Tennessee had the number one ranked recruit in the country committed for two years only to see him flip, without warning, to Jackson State on NSD?
