A solution to one of Tennessee's most persistent women's basketball problems this season continues to elude the Lady Vols. They can't seem to get a grasp on how to limit their turnovers.

"I think it's been our demise all year," UT coach Holly Warlick said.

..."We just have to keep putting (the players) in a (practice) situation where's it's competitive and they've got to take care of the ball," Warlick said. " ... We're just going to continue to do that and hope it sinks in."

Holly Warlick says turnovers have been 'demise' of Lady Vols

FWIW, Tennessee went 29-6 just 2 seasons ago while averaging almost the same number of turnovers per game (16.5) as this season (17.0).

The biggest differences between then and now? We hit about 46% of our shots on the way to averaging almost 79 points per game, and we were a much better rebounding team (11.4 rebound margin vs 5.0 this year).

There she goes again.

Just the turnovers, Holly?

The demise of the season will be by CHW.

She just loves throwing the players under the bus. It is those turnovers that are costing them the games. Just the turnovers.

Thanks for posting that info from last season to this season. Just goes to show folks that Holly needs to go.

Fire Holly, NOW!:)

Turnovers have been a problem for years, coach. When you stand around a lot, you are easy to guard, which makes it harder to make passes--and we haven't been a good passing team for 20 years.

Hiring the right coach can do wonders for a program....look at Bama and Avery Johnson....just hoping the change happens soon

I totally agree. I think the standing around and turnovers has a lot to do with no offense to run. Tennessee is so easy to guard, I could scout them. They dribble and pass without any true purpose. Cierra Burdick, Isabelle Harrison and Ariel Massegalle hid a lot of Holly's coaching flaws. Now that they are gone, we are seeing really what kind of coach Holly is. She gives no real solutions on how to correct any of the team's problem or cover their weaknesses. Just keep saying we need to do this or we need to do that. Its like beating a dead horse. Holly please step down at the end of season. This program has become a national joke in WCBB.

Somebody help teach CHW the "5 Why Analysis" technique. Holy hell if anyone from this team is monitoring these boards: the reason your team is turning the ball over is because it is clearly apparent they either 1) have no idea what the hell to do with it or 2) throw it into a post that is tripled teamed all of which goes then to our ****ty offensive schemes.

I just can't even believe this non sense.

So Pat is the real reason for our bad coaching? I get it now... :)

GO LADY VOLS!

I witnessed a similar phenomenon on my high school football team. My sophomore year, we were good, and had a great coach who went on to better things. He was replaced by an assistant who had no clue. The following year we still made the playoffs, but by my senior year the lack of conditioning, discipline and drive took hold and we went winless. The roster went from 50+ players my sophomore year to 19 at the end of my senior season with people quitting the team. A fish rots from the head down.

25 games 425 turnovers for 17 a game, 2014-2015 team when we won 30 and lost 6 we had 508 turnovers which is 14.1, 2013-2014 we won 29 and lost 6 and had 579 turnovers or 16.5 a game, 2012-2013 555 turnovers or 15.8 a game. So all four years we have been around 16 turnovers a game and not one of her teams has ever had more assists than turnovers. Her first couple of years she was winning with far more talent. Now that the talent in the SEC has gotten better she is losing games they used to win by 2 to 10 points.
She comes up with something different everyday as to why the team is losing. If it is turnovers then in her four years her teams have committed 16.1 turnovers per game. So I guess that they got lucky in a lot of games in the previous years because the turnovers per game were almost identical.

If she wants a better answer why they are losing it is that stand around non- attacking offense that she makes the team play. You have to drive the ball and attack the basket. Forcing post passes and dribbling until you have to take a long perimeter shot want get it done.
Shooting 41 percent for the season and it really is not that good because we bulk up against the weak teams and shoot about 60 percent and mostly in the thirties against the good teams.

Turnovers are the symptom. She needs to understand the cause.

Right and the cause for the major portion is her insistence on telegraphed post passes and stand around hesitant passes. The good teams attack the basket and make the defense work. It is not hard to cover a team that dribbles and passes around the perimeter looking to telegraph a pass to the post.

Holly hasn't installed an offense since she's been the head coach, but because Harrison could man handle the post and Ariel and Cierra could hit shots consistently, Tennessee got away with a lot of wins because of that and solid defense. Holly emphasis is defense and rebounding. Offense is not important to her. She makes it clear in her pressers.

Take a guess at how many turnovers Deshields will have tonight.

Do you have something against her personal? Yes, she can cut down on her turnovers, but some of them aren't her fought. What about some of the other players get turnovers from playing scared, over dribbling, over passing and the entire team has been trying to force the ball into the post. I watch Carter just run around the perimeter into traps constantly dribbling without a purpose, but do you say anything about that? Yes, Diamond's attitude can improve, she gets frustrated alot. When you are used to winning, it's tough to constantly loose the big game. DeShields is not the first suppose "star" to have an attitude problem. Parker came off as arrogant to some fans, I loved it, Dianna Taurasi dropped F bombs and flashed her Jersey on a regular basis. DeShields will not be the first or last player to come off as being self-centered. If DeShields wasn't on this team, we would have even more losses. Could it be some of her turnovers are because they are basically out there playing Street ball. Tennessee runs no offense! That's one of the main problems that are causing turnovers. Are you related to Holly? I don't see how you don't she has no responsibility for any of the losses.

Holly, you suck as a coach and should resign. You have taken the talent that you have and found a way to ruin it. Stop blaming everybody but yourself. Everybody knows your in over your head and have no business being a HC especially at UT.It has taken you only 4 years to destroy what took Pat a lifetime to build.

Could not have said that any better. Turnovers have being the fricking problem all year. To make that statement is beyond belief. Every reason to show this most ridiculous the door.
