Was Nico's dad and the agent the reason behind all of this?

Josh Pate kind of beat around the bush but this was exactly what he was getting at. The ones who dug this hole should take responsibility. I’m betting pate didn’t come up with that idea on his own. This was right after taking about Nic talking about Nakos like he reported something false about Nico.

If what this article says is true about their culture and the family hierarchy and all then I think we can all agree that we need to avoid recruiting those people. Integrity and commitment is clearly not important to them.

Agree, and your quarterback needs to possess natural leadership ability. Sort of hard to be alpha leader when you are required to run every decision through your dad.

Sounds like we need to do a better job vetting not only kids during their recruitment, but families as well.

Horrible situation for Nico, if true.

Even so, for the good of college football in general. Iamaleava(d) needs to become a byword for what happens when you let parents and agents destroy your good thing. "dont F this deal up and get Iamaleavad and lose your ride".

He can't go SEC. If we are lucky, the other ones will skip him unless they drop him down to under $1m. He is seen as toxic now so if anyone does bite, it is going to be at fire sale prices IMO.

Somebody will want him though for sure.

I thought that article shed some truths on the situation and will help calm the rumor mills. Sad situation all around. Nico will be stained for the rest of his college career as other schools now know if you recruit Nico you recruit his problematic dad to. Dad won't be able to interfere once he gets to NFL but for now he is a problem.

UCLA and Arizona State make sense. He isn't getting $4 million per year though.
He is going to take a pay cut. Wonder if he has fired his agent? should be telling. Staying quiet on this is smart but media frenzy will circle like sharks as there is blood in the water

Alot of people in our media and elsewhere have pie on their face because they have spent the last 3 years talking about how great Nico is. Those people have a personal need to find a narrative that rehabilitates their prior takes and yet is consistent with what has happened. This is such a narrative. I agree with others that A to Z is not above just making things up and this may be an example of that.

I’ve always stood up for Nico because (a) he was a first-year starter and (b) he shows a lot of potential. Not because he has already arrived.

And that is why it is preposterous that he wants a raise. He hasn’t earned it yet.

Clearly isn’t a leader then and needs home loving to win. Explains his away game record.

Needs his blankie to feel safe.

Agree. Will absolutely take a pay cut. Staying quiet is all they can do at this point and going forward, lest they put themselves in a worse position. The less they say the better. I think it’s going to be extremely difficult to get other schools to even pick up the phone due to their self inflicted damage. Their reputation as a whole has been severely sullied.

Probably has a lot to do with his dad and agent, but who knows for sure. I understand the bit about the family tradition hierarchy and always following the father and all that, but you're a grown man. Make your own decisions. He doesn't get a pass.
And there's no way to know if he's just hiding behind his dad to protect his image. I hope his dad wasn't doing this behind Nico's back but if he was, Nico could have put a stop to it and made things right. He doesn't get a pass.

Honestly, if this is tax related or the result of poor money management, it's good that this is happening to Nico now when he's trying to manage $2M-$4M rather than when he's in the NFL trying to manage $20M-$40M.

This is certainly plausible, considering the younger brother Madden’s senior year of high school was messed up due to the dad transferring him back and forth.

I hate it for Nico, but the toothpaste is already outta the tube, as they say.
A West Coast article about Madden's decommitment from UCLA to Arkansas said the father acted as Madden's agent and flat out lied about what he was doing while he was doing it. I have never seen a player's parent so harshly disrespected. After some of the things we recently heard from Nico's dad, I inclined to believe the article. Of course I do not really know. I do believe the father called the shots and Nico went along, because family came first. I think if it were up to Nico, he would have stayed with his team.

Absolutely doesn’t get a pass, even if Dad was calling the shots. The moment he skipped out on the team and practice last Friday, he took ownership of this mess by himself.

I thought this article was interesting because it said that Nico did not even know about them shopping around. Does anyone know how true this in?
Who knows? Don't care. They're all at fault - incompetent agent, interfering dad, and supposedly adult player. This took months to come to a head and they all acted badly.

There's no doubt there was activity with his agent and his Dad. He's at an age where it's highly possible he's been submissive to their actions

No way that’s true. Nico can play dumb and blame his dad like Scam Newton did. But Nico participated in the holdout. He also threatened to leave during the playoff game prep, so he knew what was happening in general.

I predicted this when NIL started. Star ratings can be wildly overblown for college freshman, but now you have to risk millions just to get them to join the team. NIL donors may start to get fatigue over this huge black hole that never has enough no matter how much you donate, and the results can be hugely disappointing.
