Was the Tennessean's game coverage written by a butthurt WKU fan?

Let's be honest, WKU did self destruct so I think the article is not out of line. I want the Vols to get a signature win this year but it will be tough as we are not a top tier SEC team yet. WKU receivers dropped a few balls that would have sustained drives and they moved the ball at will at times on our D. Again, too many 3rd and long breakdowns or missed tackles. If this was a Georgia or an Alabama squad we would have had a lot of trouble. Worley is not an accurate QB (at least not yet) and this is exacerbated when he is under pressure.

Look, I'm not trying to be negative but we won 2 games we were supposed to win and I am as happy as a pig in, well, you know what. The D is GREATLY improved but the offense needs to develop some consistency. I am very bullish on the programs future but let's keep some perspective until we get through the murderous schedule we have.

Go Vols!
I agree.

Don't you think, as hardcore fans, we like to overanalyze the games---both for good and bad? Don't get me wrong, I think some are just miserable Vol fans, but I don't see anything wrong with pointing out areas where
we didn't play particularly well and need to improve. JMO.

What is it with the power of positivity/anti analysis cult here? I'm affiliated with a number of schools with dedicated fan bases and I've never seen anything like the negavol campaign carried out here lol.

Why pretend that those turnovers didn't happen? It's like when people take away a long run or long pass and analyze the game without it. The turnovers happened and UT won the game big. WKU didn't self-destruct so much as UT forced them into those mistakes.

If those turnovers had been ours, we would damn sure be saying that we beat ourselves. The first interception was a total fluke. The other interceptions were absolutely on the QB. Had any UT QB made that many mistakes we would have benched him. I am glad we won, but if anyone who watched that game thinks we looked like a real good team....well I don't know what to say. The WKU running game was gutting us at times, while our offense looked a little lost on many drives. The truth is WKU self destructed, and we took advantage of it. Would we have beat them without the self destruction? I think we would have. Did they self destruct because they were outmatched and felt the pressure? I think that is part of it. What I will say is that had we gotten those 7 turnovers against Oregon, and played the same way we played on offense and defense against WKU, we would get beat by several touchdowns.

How did those WKU guys fumble and get intercepted? It just doesn't make sense. There weren't any defenders involved. :ermm:

After some cyphering, I have a theory. Maybe WKU was actually the SCLSU Muddogs led by Coach Klein before Bobby Boucher? Just needed some high quality H2O?

Or maybe there was a UT defense on the field doing what defenses are coached to do? :eek:k:

Returning to the original poster's original point, it is worth noting that this article did not even appear in the written version of the Tennessean today. Furthermore, it is credited to the Associated Press, without reference to a specific author. The other articles pertaining to our game, which appear in the Tennessean , were written by Mike Strange, Evan Woodbery, and "Knoxville News Sentinel." Since they selected a new, out-of-state sports editor, they relegated UT sports to comparative backwater status, notwithstanding the results of their own poll concerning local college football allegiances. They produce very little original material pertaining to UT football and most of that drivel is authored by John Adams' sarcastic literary twin, David Climer.

"The Hilltoppers outgained Tennessee 236-84 in the first half and controlled the ball for over 20 minutes, yet they still trailed 31-17 at halftime because they already had six turnovers by then."

Yes, and the same aggressive offensive play that netted them 236 offensive yards also resulted in their six turnovers. One is a function of the other. Petrino is a gunslinger whose gun is misfiring right now. Our defense knew that and took advantage of it, allowing WKU to beat itself.

That said, our offense sucked in that game. It has to improve if UT wants to have a successful season.

That was just basically a copy-paste of something written by an AP beat-writer. It's pretty much the same article, even word-word in most paragraphs, as what ESPN.com has for it's WKU-UT recap.
