and outside Yale and maybe Grand Canyon do I see advancing mid majors advancing more than one round. Most just were not that impressive to me.

I’d love to see Phil Martelli Jr and Bryant do really well but I don’t see it happening.

FYI, I don’t consider Gonzaga or St. Mary’s mid majors any longer. Those are major programs.

They usually aren’t impressive and still upset higher seeds. Did anyone expect some Peacocks or Grizzlies to upset Kentucky? It’s not about being impressive. It’s about winning and there are several smaller schools around that 30 win mark that know what it takes to win. Happens every year.

Be on the lookout for:

UCSD (only a 2.5 point underdog despite them being a 12 seed)
New Mexico
Grand Canyon
Drake
VCU
McNeese
High Point
Utah St

Colorado St is actually favored against Memphis...technically wouldn't be an upset if they won.

Also, it seems like there have been lots of upsets lately outside of the games that become trendy picks. Several of the schools I mentioned above seem to be trendy picks, especially McNeese (was also trendy last year but got blown out by Gonzaga), High Point, and VCU. I don't think I saw a single person anywhere say they liked Yale to beat Auburn last year, Oakland to beat UK, or Duquesne to beat BYU.

Glad you watched a lot of games, that in the big scheme of things, are useless. They might have an upset or two in them, but in reality are just not built to make a run with the big boys. As bad as I hate to say it, Florida and Duke are the two most talented teams. Florida cuts down the nets. 🤮 Go Vols make a run and prove me wrong.

Just guessing that while I was watching mid major hoops tourneys you had your eye on Ru Paul’s show and got overly excited about it.

St. Mary's got put out like a mid-major in point differntial. But, so did GA.

I don't think we'll see many Cinderella stories in the NCAAT going forward. Gone are the days where a stud mid-major player can carry a team to 2-3 wins over the big boys. One decent season at a smaller school now and that individual is hitting the portal to go play for a major program. We've already seen it this year - one double-digit seed in the Sweet 16 and it's a school that had the top overall recruiting class last year.

I think what we'll see in the future are power teams who had less than stellar regular seasons (like Arkansas this year) making runs in the tournament. They have the talent but sometimes don't gel until March due to injuries, learning to play together, or getting favorable matchups.
