Watching ESPN's Documentary On Len Bias...

Best college player of my life. The beating of UNC is one of my favorite games ever.

As a Celt fan, it was rough. Maybe the legend has gotten bigger than the man, but he was going to carry Bird's torch for at least a decade. Reggie Lewis hurt again not much later.

I always wonder what would have happened if Bird had started taking care of himself a little sooner and had a guy like Bias to take the pressure off him late in his career. The Detroit Pistons' back to back titles might not have ever happened and the Bulls dynasty might have been at least delayed.

Might have been different because Bias was that good, but those Bad Boys were awesome. Sans free agency and preferential officiating, Jordan would have been delayed anyway.

I agree, but I would be remiss if I didn't give proper respect to Chris Jackson, Jim Jackson, and Glenn Robinson.

Those kind of dominators are finished. Hopping to the pros has ended it.

Big Dog probably best on that list. Hakeem was close as were Pat Ewing and GrandMaMa.

Joe Smith, Chris Webber, and Jamal Mashburn were also awfully good.

I was fortunate enough or old enough (take your pick) to see Pistol Pete play all three years at LSU. I also lived here in the DC area all throughout Bias's years at Maryland. I don't know about better/best, but I have to say if I could only go watch one play on a given day I would have chosen to go watch Pete play. Maybe because he was the first superstar I remember watching play.

I agree with Bias over Jordan in college.

Then your list includes Alcindor and Walton, who were probably the two best.

I'd rather watch infomercials than anything involving Pete Maravich.

Yes. Walton against Memphis State was special. Not as many games were on TV then so we only got to see the real good ones once or twice a year at the most. I got to see Charlie Scott, Rick Mount, Elvin Hayes, Artis Gilmore, Calvin Murphy and Bob Lanier all play in college (all on the tube - not in person, did get to see Maravich in person), among others. I was in my early teens so they all seemed so much bigger than life.

Those 30 for 30 shows have been awesome. They did a great job with the Bias one. So very sad.
I learned a bunch of things from the USFL one too. I LOVE documentary shows like this.

I give myself 10 minutes before I start crying.

It was sad. Real sad.

The 30 for 30 series has been incredible thus far. The Ali/Holmes film was amazing. The absolute greed and corruption that brought that fight together is mind boggling. Ali was already showing decreased motor skills, and yet he was still cleared to fight. Criminal.

Jimmy the Greek tonight and showing from West Point tomorrow for Vets Day. Gotta give ESPN some due.

Can you really blame it on Tribble?
I can certainly blame him for getting on TV and acting like he's some sort of martyr. Also, I was a bit annoyed that the interviewer let him off the hook for his blatant lie regarding Bias' consumption of alcohol on the night in question. Tribble is pure trash. Guys like him are a huge reasons we end up with stories like Len Bias or Lloyd Daniels.

I really don't understand the hatred for Tribble. He was doing drugs with a friend....it's not like he forced the coke on Len.

I agree that he doesn't come off well in the interview but he is probably touchy about being blamed for something that a grown man chose to do and that he nearly got crucified for by the media and the legal system.

What was the lie about the alcohol? Sounds plausible that friends got together and got drunk and did some coke. Lot's of people and athletes did that in the 80's and still do today. Partying with a friend doesn't make you responsible for their death.

The whole idea that there had to be more to it because of the quality of the cocaine and it being "fishscale" is ridicuoous. Anybody who has partied in their youth understands that sometimes you come across some incredibly strong stuff no matter what type of drug it is.

Tribble claims they drank copious amounts of alcohol. Bias' BAC was .00. I'd say that's pretty good evidence his story is crap.
