Watching TAXSLAYER BOWL again

I still say that Tennessee running backs go down TOO easy.

EVEN Gray...watch him run..and then hit the ground in a fetal position before being hit. And to be honest...onside kick he could have run for days.

oh..and Chandler is S. L. O. W.

flak jacket firmly on...but...watch closely.
You can't do that chant from Duke fans would be good here. In reference to you saying Gray should have returned the kick.

What if he is not ready? CJP has said all season, the other two were not ready and JG was their best chance to win. And CJP wanted to WIN verses throwing the season away playing a QB that was not ready. And if he had done what you couch coaches wanted him to do, there would have not been a bowl game for all of us to watch and enjoy last night.

So what if the new guy isn't ready and needs to adjust to football in the SEC? You willing to endure a losing season while someone learns?
I watched him play. He is as ready as Lawrence.

This may have already been asked but I have looked for the post game trophy presentation and comments. Does anyone have a link or a resource to see it?

I think Indy handled our edge rushers very well for the most part. And that made a lot of difference.

Defense played really well until IN QB started getting loose on the scramble. Otherwise D was solid but front 4 wasn’t exceptionally quick or fast. DE’s need to improve or upgrade. Too many offsides penalties as well.

JG -what can anyone say that hasn't been said. TN had many opportunities and we saw bad JG until final moments of game.

TN has to move past him if at all possible. He is the Achilles heel and TN will not be able to score consistently against good teams with JG at the helm. He’s tough as nails but not reliable with one last year to prove himself.

Vols were fortunate last night - Go Vols!

And exactly how many games have you won as a QB at UT? The defense played a very good game but you are right we did get burned at times from their QB..........but we pretty much shut down the pass and the run other than the QB, They adjusted well by seeing our LB's dropping into coverage, but their backs and WR's were pretty much contained for most of the 2nd half.

I for one am so sick of hearing fans giving JG grief. You don't have to agree with every play he makes but unless you watched a different game he was instrumental in the win last night. Let that sink in for a minute.

Did anyone notice the TD run by Crouch?

If so, wasn't that seemingly the play call we were supposed to run at Alabama on the goal line that JG pirated and failed?

And I don't see BM being ready either. I could see this story play out with BM starting, making the same mistakes he is currently making, and then you all saying ... he has had 2 years ... move to next one.

Or maybe JG starts (... and I for one am fine with that as I think with our two best WR's leaving we are going to need to rely on the run game next year and will still need a QB that can and will manage that type of offense ...), and we have to put up with one more year of this picking apart of JG while we rack up the wins. Then in 2021, BM starts, makes mistakes, you all say ... he has had 3 years ... move to the next one.

This is a record that plays year after year after year ... the backup is always better.

This is just such faulty logic.

Guarantano has gotten the vast majority of reps in practice. We don’t know how good anyone else could be if they’re given the opportunity to actually be the starter other than Guarantano, and EVERYONE KNOWS Guarantano isn’t going to get the job done.

He’s a liability at QB. We can’t afford to give him another year to hold us back. This was easily a 10 win team. Easily. I think if we had Jajuan Jennings play QB for the entire year, we end up winning the East.

I watched the Florida game and Guarantano lost that for us. He just completely screwed over the defense by just being terrible. Going three and out. Throwing picks on our side of the field. Fumbling.

It was COMPLETE INEPTITUDE. Our defense did everything they could to hold back the dam, but Guarantano was just contributing to the dam bursting by being damn bad at football.

I think the most fair thing for everyone involved is to send Guarantano to the transfer portal.

Iirc, Maurer threw the ball four times and three of them were dropped interceptions. I really like his athleticism in the read-option and that throw he made to Palmer rolling while rolling to his right for what I think was a third down conversion was spectacular. He’s just way too confident in his ability to make the right reads right now. He’s definitely got the physical tools, I really think the other things will come with time if he’s willing to put the work in.

True about his one series in the game. But - how can you put a QB in for one series and evaluate him? The coaches have setup a situation where BM gets one series and gets pulled - so how is he supposed to react? He tries to prove he should be there.

Perhaps, if he were given a real chance, he would actually play QB, look for check downs, perhaps run - instead of try to prove himself on the one series he gets a chance.

I actually think though that BM is a sacrificial lamb - the coaches have observed what we have - if JG is pulled, for some reason things click in his mind and he comes out actually looking around the field instead of locking in on his first option. I think BM could do much better in an offense where he had a chance.

I was at the game and I thought the D line looked great in almost every phrase. The QB scrambles were by in large garbage plays. They couldn't running anything up the middle or the outside whatsoever

D played good, but not great, got the stop when they most had to though.

The 4 offsides penalties jumping into the neutral zone was aggravating to watch, need to clean that up, mistakes like that can cost you ballgames.

Why would you ever watch anything but the last 5 minutes of that game? A total waste of time.

I honestly wondered why he fell down after getting the ball

Agree other than JG. After another year of learning from Cheney, Weinke, and Tee, his leadership will be exactly what we need next season.

Maurer started against UGA and MSU didn’t he? I don’t think anyone has a vendetta against him, as a matter of fact I honestly believe that if he hadn’t been concussed on that long run against MSU he could have really settled into the starting role. I really believe they were ready to commit to him as the starter but the injury just forced their hand.

The great thing about a guy with confidence like him is that he can go take his lumps learning on the job like that and not get too discouraged, something that JG obviously has a huge issue with. I think if he hadn’t been injured, his ability to make the reads and work within the offense would have developed rather quickly.

The good news is that these guys have spring practice with a stud recruit and a dark horse veteran transfer in the QB room pushing them to be better. I expect the quarterback play to be noticeably better by the spring game.

I hope JG can finally progress with Chaney and company because he's Pruitts man.
