Wayne Chism or Tyler Smith?

I was thinking the same thing.

As bad as it was, the Tayshaun comp is probably worse.

Was the Lewis comparison really that bad? Chism will never be as talented or as athletic as Lewis...that's why I said "poor man's version." Must just be me, but I see similarities in that they are both relatively lean forwards in the 6'9-6'10 height range who can go inside or outside.

He'll be serviceable, but he's a tweener. Not big enough to deal with NBA 4s and not athletic enough to deal with the 3s or 4s.

Chism is as tall or taller than Elton Brand, Boris Diaw, Antawn Jamison, Carlos Boozer, Zach Randolph, Udonis Haslem and Kenyon Martin...all guys who frequently play the 4 position.

You just named a bunch of players much more skilled and athletic than Chism.

I've always seen Chism as a poor man's Rashard Lewis. Nowhere near as good a shooter as Lewis, but a little bit better with his inside game and a better rebounder.

Rashard Lewis? How are they comparable? Like you said, Lewis shoots better and Chism plays inside. I guess they are similar in the fact that they both play basketball. I think the Rasheed Wallace comparison is much more accurate.

I think Boris Diaw is a great comparison to Tyler. Neither shoot that well but can handle the ball and are good passers. Of course Diaw is better but still a good comparison...

I like Chism alot, but he's simply not as good as any of these guys.

IMO he's alot more like Brian Cook. One of the only reasons Brian Cook has been able to stay in the league is because his ability to knock down a 3.

Both will struggle to make a roster. Wayne has better potential because of his size and ability to shoot outside.

Except that Rasheed is a much better offensive player in every facet and is one of the eat post defenders in the league.

Sometimes it just boils down to how bad they want to make it. I wouldn't have given Chuck Hayes a snowballs chance in Hell when he graduated 4 years ago. He was too small to play inside and not skilled enough to play the 3 position. He's been with the Rockets for 4 years and has started every game for them this year. He is a defensive specialist of sorts but logs about 22 minutes a game. If he can make it on sheer effort and hard work - I see no reason these guys couldn't - they just have to want it bad enough.

I noted that Rasheed was clearly better. But I was just making the point that I could see Chism being used similarly as Rasheed Wallace if he can make a roster. I certainly don't think Chism is or will be as good as Sheed.

Interesting point. I agree. Hayes did seem like one of those guys who didn't have much of a chance.

Hayes is a great passer, high basketball IQ and tough as whit leather. I want him on my team.
