We are already behind in the portal-

Yeah, I keep hearing that we're going to hit the the portal hard, doesn't it close in 4 days?
No more people can come INTO the portal as of 12/28....however, I do believe that you can still 'recruit' individuals in the portal...the next deadline (if I remember correctly) is when they have to be registered and on campus as a student.

Idk if it’s you or the Ohio fan who was posting earlier but one of you is right and the other is very wrong. He posted a screenshot of their roster and said almost all were “home grown”

I don’t know where any of them came from other than Jeremiah Smith and they recruited him out of HS
That’s a whole different point but makes their portal haul that much more effective. They’re top five every year in high school recruiting too. We’re neither of those things.

You realize there are set roster numbers right? We can't have 150 playe
Signing 5-6 upgrades from the portal every year is not an unrealistic number with the number of players transferring out. To get to the next level UT is going to have to sign more elite players out of the portal if they want to compete with the likes of Ohio State, Texas and Oregon. It was very clear that Ohio State had superior at every position. 10-3 was a great season but we have to upgrade our squad to reach the next level.

There’s slow and then there’s Tennessee slow. Is it because our player evaluation process is just so precise or is it paralysis of analysis? Every day a good player gets scooped up by one of our rivals.
More like 3/4 of our skill players were injured. Sampson wasn’t up to speed this game; squirrel and Thornton have been banged up half the season.

We are very VERY light on the additions, what gives?

I know we have a strong class coming in and have a good core of young players, but what gives? I feel like our DL and OL are taking a big step back which doesnt spell well for a return to the CFP.

The portal isn’t the most important part of building a team
It is #1A.

It's how you stop the bleeding when you lose lower classmen to the portal that haven't been accounted for with your previous year's recruiting.

In today's NCAA it's a vital part, especially if you want to actually compete with the OSU & UGA's of the world.

Vols may be playing a quantity game, Hold back on the high dollar boys and pick up a ton of D-1 guys that overvalued themselves and got left behind with nowhere to go. Have Eckler run them ragged in spring practice and see who can man up and play SEC football. Offer incentive contracts based on tackles or productive plays. last chance U strategy. Strategy 2: Bring up a ton of lower division guys with big dreams and do the same thing. While LSU is baby sitting a bunch of pampered prima donnas- Vols have the hard nosed blue collar guys who are motivated and nasty. Strategy 3: Go find some of Travis Henry’s kids.
