We are headed back to the dark ages

Maybe...maybe not.

We still got some pretty good players with exp....dont give up before the first tip.

Such as? I like Golden. McRae is as athletic as they come but looks to be a marginal basketball player. Tatum is falling apart. Mcbee tries hard. Kenny Hall will foul out of games in the first quarter. We just signed 3 players that no one wanted.

Seems like a tough thing to do considering college basketball plays two halves.

On the face yes, but I didn't feel like first half was exaggerated enough

Can a math major help me out? Can you break something down further than one half. Say if you split those halves in half. What would that be?

And the sky fell? Not really. The beauty of basketball is that one class can turn a program around for the good. The sheer number of departures (especially the 2 entering the draft early) from this team, along with the timing of Pearl's firing have made Coach Martin really scramble to collect bodies for next season.

But one good recruiting cycle, and some solid coaching can have this program right back into the mix. Only a matter of time before Calipari has a recruit implode at UK. Other than them, the talent gets spread fairly evenly among the contenders in the conference. A good coach who can improve his players' (counting on Coach Martin) abilities and have them playing serious defense will be fine in the SEC basketball world.

Calling that a tournament game is an embarrassment to the NCAA tournament.

Michigan got that it was a game. UT not so much. If I were a team considering drafting Hopson, I would discuss this debacle with him and have him explain to me how a 'NBA" caliber player like himself did not perform and keep that beatdown from happening.

If you were a top recruit why would you go play for Cuonzo Martin at Tennessee?

He's going to have to win a ton of games before the big time kids even consider us.

What is your definition of a big time recruit? One and done? Top 50? Top 100? A kid will come to UT for lots of reasons. The biggest reason is that he will like what Coach Martin is selling. This may not be one and dones, not a problem with me. If he can get a 3 to 4 decent recruits next year (needs size on the inside) and coach up what he has then this program will be fine. Hopson and Harris were the 2 biggest recruits that Pearl landed. And the main reason the team went to the elite 8 was Chism and Prince. Solid players but not elite types.

I hope that he recruits over every single player in this class by the time they are starting their Sr season. For us to even maintain the level of talent CCM has right now, this will most certainly have to be the case.

could hire a coach making less than 200,000 a year and pay him 1.2 million with no track record of winning in the big leagues. I think we over paid by about 700,000 or more. You just have to wonder WTF.

Hey wait - we got a bargain in that baseball feller and I think Mike snagged him for a mere $300,000 a year. He was unproven with no track record of winning in the big leagues and ........ oh wait a minute.

I respect your opinion but I think that the 2 wing kids that he signed could beome really good players. The right coaching and their development could surprise. The team needs size inside. It would great if the Woolridge kid could actually develop into a decent defensive player given his length. The talent level is going to have to be upgraded over the next couple years (obvious statement, I know) but that was also going to be the case if Coach Pearl were here. I believe that Harris with the whole lock-out thing and Hopson with his determining that he was a 'player' that both would have left with or without Pearl.

I think Hopson and Harris were both gone with or without Pearl, and Harris will go higher this year and Hopson's only chance at getting drafted is to go this year. Richardson may end up being a solid player, but he is the only player in this class that I see any hope and any light at the end of their tunnel. I still see him as a great 6th man, but time will tell. Hopefully we can get to a point where Richardson is a 6th man as that would mean all of us are feeling pretty good about the state of our program.

Epic thread bump in 3 years. Prepare thy self.

Yep...I can read the headlines now...."Martin fired as UT basketball coach".....And then everybody will start naming the new coach to replace him and it will all be big names and UT will go out and hire some guy nobody has ever heard of and some will be excited and many won't and he will last about 3 years and the circle of life of UT basketball will continue as usual.

No opinion is worthless. Just agree or disagree, but don't say it doesn't hold any value.

Not that I'm endorsing this poster, but HendersonVol, nice to see a neighbor here on VN. I live in Knoxville for school, but my parents and sister moved to Hendersonville from Nashville a couple years ago. Not a bad place except that it takes FOREVER to go anywhere south of Hville. We need more bridges!

Nobody that pays attention to the college game calls it a "quarter". You say, "first 10 minutes." I can also guarantee that no one will foul out in the first 10 minutes of any game this year.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree that his opinion has no worth.

I guess that dooming us to failure based on a lack of stud recruits after two signing days have passed will later be considered an exaggeration, as well.

I'm just not the type to dwell on the negative. Especially a negative that is circumstantial (such as the state of this year's recruiting class) or of a person's abilities which haven't even been tested yet.

Who said it was based on that?

Yet you continue to read my opinion.

My opinion is that you are a valuable member of society with an opinion worth hearing.
