Torrian Gray is someone to watch because I think the Little Beamer experiment is going to end sooner than later.

It will be interesting to see what Heup and Danny do. I assume Banks will have someone in mind as well.

Is they’re ever going to take the next step defensively, they have to learn press man coverage
Problem is that, no matter who the secondary coach it, you gotta have the talent to play press/man. Right now our starters aren't up to snuff. This staff is just married to experience. I'm more a fan of putting your most talented guys out there. What good is knowing where to line up and what to do if you're physically unable to do it? Biggest mistake of the season is not getting the youngsters more reps this year. By necessity, they'll be thrown into the deep end against a much more difficult schedule next season. Just my opinion, but this is a huge failure on the part of Banks and Martinez.

Bro I hear you, but until Banks Changes Philosophy we are not going man very often. Marrinez doesn't set the defensive allignment or call plays.

Also Im going to point out we are SLOW at S and do not have the athletes to make a play on the ball in the back end. Wr's have constantly found the soft spot between the CB and S. Until we have enough athleticism on the back end we will continue to give up yards. However what we are doing well is not getting beat for 6

I agree with this. Maybe we will see more of the young guys the next few weeks. Gibson looks good and Matthews looked better previously earlier this season.

It's incredible how he can take a DL that was a liability and shape them into the top of the league

We have had a deep interior defensive line for at least 3-4 years from a pure talent standpoint. Think about the players we lost that were kicked off. Getting stronger at DE and the staff continuity has been key. Obviously Garner is an excellent coach, but he's been able to help mold some good players. The defense around the interior line has improved.

I think Banks knows he doesn't have the Joes back there yet and hopes our DL can get to the Qb. The bend don't break soft zone drives me crazy though, especially on 3rd and long, which has been Banks achilles heel since he got here.

While I agree when referring to the top teams in the conference, there's no reason we can't man up some of the bottom league teams and OOC creampuffs. If you can't tell, I'm not a big fan of the soft coverage crap. I understand why Banks thinks he can't play man, but I would rather get beat being aggressive than just letting folks like Kensucky pick the zone apart and throw for almost 400 yards. I don't have a clue how much they practice press man, but it honestly looks like they don't practice zone switching much either.

I think its more to do with the lack of athleticism in the S positions that really create a problem switching off. Those guys are late 98% of the time. Specifically McCullough and #12

I assume they have to practice together to practice zone switching techniques since it's almost always going to be S>Cb or vice versa. So its really both. Not sure how you practice it otherwise.

At the end of the day, no one will care about Yards. We'll only remember the win/loss columns. Teams can pass 400 yards, but can they score on us? Last year, we were #22 in the country in stopping teams from scoring. And we were #13 in Red zone which is what helped us to win 11 games this year. This year we are #26 or 27 in stop rate which is still pretty good.

Just like on offense, the coaches have to play to the strength of the personnel and we are #1 in SEC in rush offense and rush defense. The coaches are looking for ways to win and not just looking for ways to entertain the fans.

Kensucky made that game very close with all those yards. Had they been able to execute in the red zone a little better, that W becomes an L. Then everyone would care.

I agree. That's a chance we have to take. That's football. Coach Banks decided our best chance to win was selling out to the run and even with their best passing game, it wasn't good enough to win, so Coach Banks made the right decision.

You are right, yards aren't issue but giving up 3rd or 4th and long passes when we could get off the field really bites us.

We're #27 in 3rd down and #5 in 4th down defense, so we're doing good there. But we need to tighten up on red zone offense and defense.

It was more of an issue last year. There has been improvement this year, I agree. Honestly, if you take out Florida, we have had a good season. The Florida loss just keeps hanging over us as a dark cloud.

We got to beat Missouri this Saturday.
