We Could Solve the Playoff Nonsense

Only conference winners play in the cf playoff. Your championship game is your first round
I say put the top 12 teams in whether or not they are conference champions. We can’t help the SEC is better than the mountain west or conference USA. If they cry well we won our conference but got left out, we’ll move to a more competitive league.

I never thought I’d ever say I hope Ohio State wins….. but this Cignetti a-hole has me hoping they stomp the livers out of Indiana.

So far this season, Indiana hasn’t played a single opponent currently ranked in the Top 30 nationally, according to the Sagarin rankings. Meanwhile, two-loss SEC teams like Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia and Tennessee — ranked 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th, respectively, this week — have at least one Top 25 win, if not multiple, and a strength of schedules ranking of first (Georgia), 16th (Alabama), 18th (Tennessee) and 29th (Ole Miss).

The coach is a little bit full of himself because he has beaten two teams that were in the playoffs last year that are well, not very good this year. If Washington or Michigan or UCLA had a pulse Indiana would easily have 3 losses.

If by chance they make the playoffs he had better pray that he doesn't have to go up against Bama or Georgia after calling them out.

And if they don't make the playoffs, may want to avoid Vandy in a bowl game.

Drop automatic bids to conference champs, and drop having the top G5 team in. Go by top 12 only.
That may not solve all the problems, but what I guarantee is that it will change in some way within 3-5 years.
That’s the only thing that makes sense and until they do that, we should play 12 SEC games and boycott the NCAA playoffs.

Me personally I think they need to do like basketball and one weekend a year leave open and have like a B1G Ten vs SEC Challenge. Like in October so it's far enough in season B1G 10 teams can't say we drag them down here for humidity and not November so they can, not cover frozen fields to slow down the SEC speed. That could help in the argument of which conference is superior. Like Fox plays the B1G home games and ABC the SEC home games.

Yes, play a 12-game SEC schedule - think of all the great matchups within the conference we would get to enjoy! After that, take the top 4 SEC teams and play a mini playoff to a champion allowing for retribution and/or matchups that didn't happen in the season.

Or given that to get through the CFP a team will have probably played 15 games - just play a 15 game SEC schedule, letting each team play each other.

I posted this in another thread this morning, seems more relevant here. Maybe all schools go to a 10 game schedule, one out of conference, as a tune up, and then 9 conference games with the best record being the conference champion ( no conference championship game). Then, expand the playoffs to 32 teams; 4 divisions of 8 where the 1 seed (conference champs) play the 8 seed and so on. These would be your bowl games.

Boise State lost on the road to the #1 team by 3 on a last second FG. In that game Boise missed a FG and gave up 2 punt return TDs. If that team was playing in the SEC this year they would probably be a 1 or 2 loss team.

I agree with most of that, how about 2 cupcakes so you could have a bye week.
The bye week for ALL conferences would week 6 or 7 to keep it even.
And to add to the money maker and to make it fair....all the OOC games have to be neutral site games. Imagine going to see the Vols play PSU in Green Bay, Syracuse in Dallas and Colorado in Las Vegas!
Season ticket holders won't go for that, and that's where the money is.

The problem is not the small conferences or even the Big 12 or ACC. It's the fact that the Big 10, for some unfathomable reason (actually very fathomable - $$$$$$ big money markets) is seen as the equal to the SEC even though there are two legit teams in OSU and Oregon and two pretend 'good' teams in Indiana and Penn State, who have beaten nobody, out of 18 teams.

I've said since the beginning of this stupid playoff that there should be no auto bids, but just rank the best 12 teams based on a computer program, and make being the conference champion one of the parameters in ranking the teams.

Agree. Isn’t rewarding these lesser teams in weaker conferences like socialism? We are evening the playing field when for these teams when they really haven’t earned it. Just line up the 12 best teams regardless of the conference.
