My unsupported thoughts are that our recent trajectory into the playoffs as the season has been cranking down, has had some talented players on non-contenders considering the portal and communicating through back channels to see if UT has any interest. We may have winked back at some and are waiting till after signing day before we have them enter the portal when our rooms and 85 calculations are solidified. Have not seen any panic when these defections were anticipated.

You have to think our season is going to attract portal players, not to mention our NIL situation. And we can say that about both sides of the ball this year, which is very nice.

Even whenever they sign you can’t trust it. They can transfer whenever they want now lol. Just have to support whoever is here whenever they are here. If they decide to leave then don’t let the door hit them on the way out. I kind of hope they do become employees because then they would be forced to sign 3 yr contracts with 4th and 5th year options baked in just in case they decide to not go pro or need a redshirt season. It’s a bit of a double edged sword in that if you get a bad recruit then you are stuck with them but at least it would simmer down all this portal business being the Wild West.
