We have 2.5 decent SEC players right now

Also, McBee is a straight three point shooter. He can't take the ball to the basket.

Fair point. I think McBee's other problem is that he has trouble getting open for his shot. As you noted, he's a pure spot-up shooter. He's got a slow release and if a defender gets a run at him, his technique suffers and he misses.

I have no clue what players CM has lined up for next year but he needs a true PG in the worst way. A guy that might only score 8pts a night but drops 8-10 assists. I don't know if there's a single player on the team right now that makes others on the team better. I'm not convinced Golden is a pg. Might be a better 2-guard. His dribbling and turnovers leave a bit to be desired.

I fully expect the upcoming stretch of 6 games to be rough but all I'm looking for is improvement in the various phases of the game. Golden & Maymon don't need to take turns scoring 25pts per night. I'd be content if they could lower the standard deviation a bit and score 16pt per night with decent assist/turnover and rebound numbers respectively.

Best thread of the new year. That's all it comes down to... skill. We don't have enough of it. Plenty of potential though, but that does us no good at the present time. Time, patience and a little help from the recruiting gods will get us there.

Travon Landry will be here for 2013 and he's exactly who you are talking about.

It's not going to be pretty.

I still have faith in him.

He's basically a freshman and has a lot of growing to do. He would have transferred if Bruce wasn't let go and didn't like CCM.

We'll see.

I don't like to bash players so I've said enough negative about him.
I do see the writing on the wall.
In the first 9 games he was averaging 25.7 minutes a game.
After the CoC game his minutes dropped to 16.4 per game and his production to 4.4.
I see him playing less and less, unless he has a major attitude adjustment which was his problem under Bruce.
Think he'll transfer after this season.

I can't watch Hall play anymore. I have never disliked the game, effort and attitude of a player like I have him. 28 minutes, 2 pts and 2 to's last night. Terrible D lapses continue. Then to top it off, he'll make one play and bang his damn chest or yell.

Until CM doesn't have to play Cam and Hall anymore, he won't win much. I still wish someone would ask him about Miller. Miller, Yemi, Stokes and Maymon should be the big man rotation.

One other thing. I don't understand the D philosophy as far as defending the passing lane or denying the ball. It appears that we allow free passing lanes all around the perimeter and into the paint. If someone is killing you off the dribble, the best thing to do is not let them get the damn ball or at least make it difficult.

I have the Mo. State job he did as belief. Now it's Mo State and not an SEC job, but I think that shows it's not a one year fix. Especially how different him and Bruce were.

I get that, but MSU and Tennessee are apples and oranges. Can he do it on a much larger scale at UT is the question that remains to be seen. I really hope he can and that we are not starting over again in four years.

I agree its not a one year fix. I just don't get any sense that he recognizes that what we are doing now isn't working. He hasn't changed one thing all season, and that is concerning. He can't change the pieces he is working with, but he does have the power to change the manner in which he uses them, and I haven't seen him attempt one change, be it for better or worse. I almost get the sense that he has just chalked this season up as a lost cause. I know that's not true, or at least I hope its not, but he gives the same stale comments in post-game interviews and overstates the need to get better in certain areas, but doesn't make any discernable attempt to change anything systematically to give his team a chance to succeed outside of individual improvement.

Bottom line; losing is frustrating for us all.

What happened to the Maymon who played like a beast in Maui? Hasn't he been more of a pussycat lately?

the one thing that bothers me about martin is our almost one dimentional defense. He never seems to adjust. memphis killed us in the paint and he still had his bigs moving to the top to help on the ball defender when it was clear they werent getting back quick enough. I dono if he got out coached last night or if he feels like he dont have the personal to do anything different but cjp had an answer for pressuring golden and keeping the ball out of his hands and then pounding us in the post.

Unfortunately, that 's the key to motion offense.
The only thing I've seen on this team that resembles motion offense is the 3 out 2 in concept.
Watch a couple of Kansas State games and you'll see what it's supposed to look like.
Our guys just don't get it.

If our Martin would beef up and look all crazy like that Martin then we wouldnt have a problem getting it right. Imagine making that man mad and having to tail it back to the bench while he stares a hole through you :)
