We have the pieces...

Very good post. I assume these figures do not include free throws. But how can Carter average over 3 points per shot attempt unless she is fouled on made 3 pointers and converts some of those free throws?

Free throws do count in the efficiency. If your scoring with the clock off even better.

the talk about how closely knit the team is will be important to helping those players who are shooting poorly stay positive. Remember Pat's yearly statement in late January about the freshmen need to play like upper classmen, they aren't in late January yet.

I think Simmons realizes this year she has to play team ball, and quit being a ball hog. Otherwise, Carter will take her starting job. I give her credit, she's one of the fastest players in the game, she just needs to throttle her impulse to shoot first, because this team has multiple players that can score double-digits per game. This team is as deep as the '07-'08 team, minus a super-star, but if Mercedes improves a lot by March, she could be a dominant force, especially with the rule change, which favors less physical players like her (now anyway). She does need to get in the weight room, but I'm sure the coaches are helping her in that regard.

Volfan, Interesting info. Howcome no Graves?

Left her our in error. A huge mistake on my part since she is certainly the best overall player on the team. Anyway she will be a 1.40 player before the season is over. Right now she is at 1.10 which is very low for her. Plus 19 on defense great rebounder.

I would like to see Simmons using her quickness to create shots for others closer to the basket. Get some assists. Drive to the basket and dish to a big. That would help the team more than her 33 percent shooting.

She is an enigma could be drawing several fouls per game and creating shots when double teamed all she wants to do is jack up threes.

I know I should not do this but imagine if Davis and Tucker were playing this year on this team. WOW, can you say National Championship.

But back to reality. We don't have Parker but I think this team is deeper and overall talent could be better than Parker's team but that is yet to be realized and most seasons it takes a superstar to win it all, but not always.

The stats have all be put out there and it supports what I think we all know. Russell could be great, Harriosn and Graves are very good, Massengale is good point and Carter needs minutes, Front line could be best in Country.

Lady Vols policy is the Senior starts so Simmons most likely wont't be benched but minutes could become a factor.

What can happen:

Can Jones develop better basketall IQ to go with her athleticism.

Is it too late for Simmons to play team ball and utilize her quickness for the team and not just for her shots.

Can Massengale continue to shoot the ball well.

Can Holly install a better offense with flow and one that utilizes the talent she has.

Can we dominate the boards and play good defense.

If these things happen, this team has a shot this year.

Even if the talent is better, the opposition is also better. No longer does Tennessee get first pick of recruits.

Lady Vols policy is the Senior starts If this is policy, it's a poor one.so Simmons most likely wont't be benched but minutes could become a factor.

What can happen:

Can Jones develop better basketall IQ to go with her athleticism. Doubtful at this late date.

Is it too late for Simmons to play team ball and utilize her quickness for the team and not just for her shots. Probably. She's proved over and over that she just can't seem to control herself when she sees the basket.

Can Massengale continue to shoot the ball well. Doubtful. Most people revert back to their norm. Everyone has hot and cold streaks.

Can Holly install a better offense with flow and one that utilizes the talent she has. Probably not. Like Pat, too many years not concentrating on offense.

Can we dominate the boards and play good defense.Yes on dominating the boards except for the top teams. Good defense is less certain, but is good for the most part.

If these things happen, this team has a shot this year. With a list as long as you've presented, the word "if" isn't encouraging.

On the other hand, so far so good.

Lot of pessimism. When I think about how Holly over achieved with last years team, I look for a final four run with the tools available this season.

The majority of boards on any subject - have more pessimism and more negative comments than positive. If we don't set our hopes on a national championship we won't be disappointed.

I live in St Louis and follow the Cincinnati Reds. Interesting contrasts in reading the two baseball boards. St Louis finds ways to win and the fans are with them always. Yes they expect good results but ... But when all is said the fans down pitch, hit or shoot three pointers or play defense. We just , what do we just do?

Not pessimism, just reality. Does anyone want this board to be like The Summitt?
Reality is based on facts. A lot of your stuff is just a jab and wrong in a lot of instances. It's all good though. The discussion and opposing views are healthy for us all.

The Summitt was/is a joke: nobody was allowed to question or criticism the team, so all you got was this pollyannish culture enforced by fascist board monitors. And everyone was supposed to genuflect before PS, as if she didn't make mistakes or as if it wasn't obvious that the program was slipping noticeably over the last decade over her tenure.
